megamacx 3 Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Hi, I am new to Emby and still trying to get my arms around it. I have been a Windows Media Center User for almost 8 years now and I plan to continue using it. Long story short, I have my pictures library organized in sub folders by year and month, like D:\Pictures\2015\August - At the Park\ And inside I have all the pictures for that event. At the same level of 2015 I also have other years, and inside each year I have the folders of events for that particular year. Everything looks good (as always has been) from WMC. However, if I add a library pointing to D:\Pictures and I select the type as "Photos", I am able to get to the first level of folders but not to the second. Initially I thought Emby hadn't finished indexing the library, but after few hours the issue was the same. After seeing this, I tried creating the library by using the " mixed content " type instead of "photos". This time even though I didn't see any thumbnails, the folder structure came up better because I was able to get to the 2nd level of folders, but this time Emby for Android (brighter the web app) showed any picture listed inside the folders. Another separate problem I noticed is that there's a tab inside the pictures module that will try to pull all the pictures recursively from all the folders and subfolders. In my case where we are talking about thousands of pictures, this becomes really messy and the emby client (Android in this case) starts becoming sluggish (trying to pull down thousands of thumbnails). The ideal for me is to be able to have the UI displayed as folders with the thumbnails of some of the pictures inside the 2nd level folders AND be able to open the folder, get to the 2nd level folders and browse thorough the pictures on that folder. Thoughts? Anything I am missing? Thanks!
legallink 187 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Have you checked the naming conventions on the wiki?
ebr 16184 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Change the type back to photos. Then in your preferences (click your user icon) un-check the option to group that folder.
sh0rty 717 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 And disable style for your photo folder in preferences. Gesendet von meinem HTC One_M8 mit Tapatalk
megamacx 3 Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 Have you checked the naming conventions on the wiki? I haven't found much information on the wiki for photos. Do you have a link I can read?
megamacx 3 Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 And disable style for your photo folder in preferences. Gesendet von meinem HTC One_M8 mit Tapatalk Guys, thanks for the reply. I tried this suggestion as well as the one from ebr. However, now that I switched back to the type photos, when I open the pictures library, I can see the folders with the years, but if I open a year, I see the thumbnails of all subfolders together (I lose each subfolder and it becomes really difficult to find any event).

Also change the view with the 3dot menu to backdrop so you have the underline text. Gesendet von meinem HTC One_M8 mit Tapatalk
megamacx 3 Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 Thanks for your reply. It looks like it's working now. However not all folders have the thumbnails yet. I guess I just need the server to complete the indexing. I will wait a few hours and report back. Thanks again!

If not, go to the folders without thumbnail in Metadata Manager and do an advanced refresh through the 3dot menu and just download the missing pictures, Did the trick for me.

Thanks for your help! I connected from my phone again this morning and all thumbnails showed up for the 2nd level of folders, which is great. However, I noticed something interesting: Under "Home", all the sections don't show the titles underneath. (the TV, Movies and Music don't show it because they show the thumbnails), and Pictures and Videos show the title because they (for some reason) don't have the thumbnails. When I opened a specific folder with pictures, I get this: However, when I select a particular picture, I don't get the picture in fullscreen anymore (last night I did). What I get now is a view that shows the picture small and all details about the picture (metadata): Thoughts?
sh0rty 717 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 (edited) Yes Sir, I think you should look at this post http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/24736-change-of-photo-treatment-in-folder-view-no-style-activated/&do=findComment&comment=241773 and give a +1 or like because I think we have the same problem Also I don't know why you generated Pictures have 8 Pic-in-Pics, mine just have 4 (like in Thread linked above). Perhaps @@ebr knows something about it. Thanks for your help! I connected from my phone again this morning and all thumbnails showed up for the 2nd level of folders, which is great. sh0rty 717 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 (edited) He's on the release server and you are on the beta. Has the limitation to 4 pictures a benefit since the 8 picture fragments looked nicer (my personal opinion). And since you are Mr. Imagemagick , let me ask you a last question. Why were the Folder/Library Names in the dynamic pictures removed (in Beta)? Edited August 27, 2015 by shorty1483
ebr 16184 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I actually prefer the smaller slices as well. I suspect Luke decided to go with the bigger slices to make containers with fewer items look better (like collections) and changed them all to be consistent so that you didn't have vastly different looking images in the same list. The text was removed because it was redundant in a lot of the app displays. If there is a need for text, the apps need to offer an option to display it underneath or as on overlay. 1

It doesn't add more fragments if you change it from poster to backdrop?

Unfortunately there is no option to change between layout...But @@ebr is right. The priority should be a naming structure. I was just curious about the layout. Style is on, Year Folders=Layout option present, month Folders=Layout option NOT present, Pictures inside Month Folders=Layout option present Don't know if it's perhaps a bug.made a feature request already. megamacx 3 Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 Well, at least i am not alone. Do you know why are the thumbnails not generated for the Pictures and Movies icons under the Home tab? (my first screenshot) Yes Sir, I think you should look at this post http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/24736-change-of-photo-treatment-in-folder-view-no-style-activated/&do=findComment&comment=241773 and give a +1 or like because I think we have the same problem Also I don't know why you generated Pictures have 8 Pic-in-Pics, mine just have 4 (like in Thread linked above). FrostByte 5392 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 (edited) Ok, we must have a different structure. My photos are in X:\Photos\Year\Event format and I can choose poster/backdrop at the Year and the Event level. Edit: I'm on the latest beta Edited August 27, 2015 by FrostByte

If I look on your screenshot, I guess not. When you click on a photo inside one of the folders, do you get a fullscreen view of the photo or some kinda Details page? The folder depth seems to be the same... Mine is Y:\Daten\MEGA\Bilder\2010\2010-06-Juni ("Bilder" is the added library) Edit: ATM Upgrading from 3.0.5713.3 to 3.0.5713.4 Gesendet von meinem HTC One_M8 mit Tapatalk Edited August 27, 2015 by shorty1483
FrostByte 5392 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 (edited) No, I see yours is in the post further up. Your option doesn't seem to be very enhanced to me Edited August 27, 2015 by FrostByte

megamacx 3 Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 Is it easy to upgrade from release to beta?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Is it easy to upgrade from release to beta? Yes, you can use the installer from website or go to Advanced-Automatic Updates and change update level to beta.
megamacx 3 Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 When you open a photo, does it show fullscreen or with the metadata? I just upgraded to the latest beta and it still shows the metadata instead of full screen. Update to 3.0.5713.4 Beta seems to have fixed all issues. Just love Emby and the devs
