Nothing plays with iOS

Noticed today that neither web client nor emby app is able to play a title. Items play fine on a laptop that is part of the home group. They also play fine on the server of course. Odd thing is in the server active devices I see different devices reporting different server version.

 

Current version is 5713.42167. Chrome on local server says the same but my iPad reports 5713.38010.

 

My iOS is the beta 9. My server is now running Win 10. Folders are shared. I get a blank screen in the latest app (197). In web client I get a full listing but the timer wheel on playing an item. There are no servers logs to speak of though. There is an empty transcode file and all I see is debug messages at the time.

Just updated to 5714.28118. Web client now works again but app still shows a blank screen.

Same problem on latest beta on Linux and iOS 8.4. Music plays fine but videos don't. I will get some logs uploaded.

 

It was working fine in the latest stable version tough.

Here are the logs.

 

Transcoding seems to be working ok but there is a problem between the server and the client to deliver the stream.

I tested using HTTP for the sake of a more simple scenario, but I can confirm that the problem happens with HTTPS too.

 

On the other hand, music playback is working just fine using both protocols.

 

Video and music playback using the weblclient is working fine from a PC (mozilla + elementaryOS) and from Kodi (using direct stream with the Kodi addon) so it looks that the issue is related to Safari on iOS devices.

Playback is working now. I am on Version 3.0.5709.12419

 

It is a lot faster than it is on my Android phone. I guess IOS has a much better video player.

That's an old one. I will rollback to stable an test again.

Is that web client and app Luke? I thought the comment you made in another post relating to the app conceded a fault with it?

Isn't that the latest stable? I don't use beta or dev.

I don' think so. At least not on Linux. We are on 3.0.5675.1 for stable and 3.0.5713.2 for beta.

Something quite telling in my view is the active devices list in the server ui. Using safari I see the active device report the right device and server version. The app however still reports an older version. Current version is now 5715.19231. App is showing 5713.38010.

Ok. I removed 3.0.5713.1 and installed 3.0.5675.1 and now playback from iOS works just fine again. This needs to be further investigated.

Update: updating to the latest beta 3.0.5713.2 seems to fix the playback issue in Safari. The whole webclient seems less responsive but playback works.

This is what I mean about the active device versions above.  Since this problem started the app displays a much older server version than anything else.

Which iPad app are you using? The not-yet-released one or the not-mantained-anymore that is available in the appstore?

The emby one. Just tried 198 and now I see nothing for it in active devices.

Hi guys,


 


I'm recently migrated from Plex to Emby.


I like the features and options that Emby has, while Plex doesn't without the Pass.


 


All my videos thumbnails are show with an icon ! on the top left corner.


What's that means?

that's going away in the next release. it just means there was some kind of metadata download failure. starting with the next release, it will just auto-retry.

I fixed it by change the media type to 'Home Videos'.

Hopefully, Emby iOS app is release soon, that'll be awesome.

My videos sometimes played and sometimes not on Safari regardless if I using app.emby.media or my hostname.

The Playback settings is set to: 1080p - 8Mbps.

 

Error message:

Video Error

There was an error playing the video.

 

They're mp4 container.
