Server goes to sleep while streaming

Hi all,

 

I upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday and since upgrading Emby hasn't been usable as it goes to sleep whilst streaming media to any of my client systems. This was never an issue when using Windows 7 so I'm wondering if there's an option I need to enable to stop this happening?

EDIT: Should also mention I've tried updating the drivers for my network adapter with no change.

the next server release will have some fixes for this. even still, make sure your system doesn't have a really aggressive sleep timeout. make sure it's at least 15 minutes.

Sounds good, thanks for the hard work you guys put in to making Emby what it is!

 

I usually have a sleep timer of 20 mins but since this issue I've had my sleep timer set at 3 hours to try and prevent sleep during streaming.

I know this thread is old, but the problem still exists.

 

I have a fresh install of Window10 Pro and use emby for kodi and emby for android on an nvidia shield. The problem is that this standby behaviour is not reproducible. Sometimes Emby streams the whole movie and sometimes the server goes to sleep every 30 minutes. It doesnt matter if its emby for android or kodi.

 

Maybe I should downgrade to windows7 ?

For some month I used Windows7 again without emby server. Everything was fine. I only used Kodis internal library. Standby in Windows7 is set to 30 minutes.

 

Now I installed Emby server again and used it with SPMC 16.5 on Nvidia Shield (emby for kodi addon). Now the error is back. My server goes into standby after some time (different time) and emby must be the reason for this.

I watched for about 20 minutes, then the server went down. About 5 Minutes later it started again.

What is your system sleep setting?

In Windows7 its 30 minutes. And in SPMC I have set it to close after 20 minutes

what do you mean close for 20 minutes? you mean the spmc application closes, or it sleeps the system?

Under power saving there is an option "shutdown function timer". That is set to 20 minutes. And I have set this to quit SPMC after 20 minutes of idle.

As a test, what happens if you try disabling that setting? does the problem persist?

But this is not reproducible. So I dont know how long it takes

try running emby server from the tray icon instead of the windows service. see if that makes a difference. thanks.

I have to correct me:

 

Before testing with tray icon I set windows standby to 45 minutes. While streaming for several hours everything is fine. But when I stopped streaming the server goes to standby after about 20-30 minutes which is too soon.

We aren't causing the computer to sleep so you would need to adjust the settings in the OS.

But this must be related to emby. If I stream without emby the server goes to sleep after 45 minutes

But Emby does not control any of those timers, it only prevents them from going off while streaming.

That is correct, we do not put the system into sleep mode - ever. We only try to prevent that from happening. I am sorry you feel this is an emby problem.
