Scenes thumbnails

Scenes thumbnails don't show up for me. Should I set them somehow?

Posted

What kind of info do you need?

I have the newest server and mbt installed but even in the previous releases scenes thumbnails didn't work both in mkv and full bd structures.

Posted

for bd folder structures they are currently disabled because ffmpeg does not support that, and we rely on it for image extraction.

they should be populated for mkv's though. you might have an mkv with missing header information. Tikuf can better explain what to do.

no setup required. aside from that, need more information to help.

How was the original file made?

If you can try running it through mkvmerge gui.  Just load it up and select start muxing (change the file name if required) and retest with the new file

If that doesn't work we will take further steps

If your using MakeMKV, about half the time you will only have blank thumbnails from my experience. Not really feasible to run 100+ movies and thousands of episodes through mkvmerge to fix them.

Posted

Grant it can be done in a batch and takes about 1 or 2 mins (for a movie) per item. It is actually caused by a bug in early mkv (not sure if it is fixed yet) so there is not much we can do about it.

I ran one of my movies through mkvmerge and it helped indeed. Don't want to run all my movies though, is there any other way?

Yea you really want to fix it because it doesn't just affect scene thumbnails. If we can't seek to a certain position in the file to extract an image, it also means we won't be able to seek during playback to mobile clients and roku.

Depends upon what is broken. If it is actually not generating anything, then yeah I would guess seek is completely broken. But often times they are just black images that are produced. So it still seeks fine, it just isn't pretty.

Luke is completely right and I will get something hammered out for you when i get the chance.

I pulled my head out of internet explorer's colon and @@gcw07  have a fix for the black thumbs I will get you to test it when you pop your head up.

@@Luke 262 black images out of 110717 images I would say its a bit better now  :P

@Tikuf

Can you show me, how the batch Processing is possible? Can you provide a Script/Comando?

Thx

I am having a similar problem. Scene images are missing for both Roku and when accessed via a browser. Seems to of started right around 11-18-17. Playback works fine from the scenes, just the images for the scenes are gone.   much of my collection previous to 11-18-2017 is missing the scene images.  Everything added after 11-18-17 has the images. Is there a database i can delete that houses the scene images and let it rebuild? or some clean-up process i can run?

@@dcauger, have you checked to make sure you've enabled this feature? click on each library in emby library setup and double check that. have you allowed the chapter image scheduled task to run? that's when the image generation occurs. Thanks.

Thank you for the response - Yes, the check box is checked for both "extract chapter images during the library scan" and "enable chapter image extraction"

For me, this problem showed up mid-to-late November. All of the content for any items added since mid-to-late November is complete.  All of the images used to exist and populate.

I do not have the artwork or metadata stored locally in their media folder (I had it set up this way a long time ago, however, painting the screen was delayed). Caching and metadata are on a dedicated SSD.

I recall a problem when I upgraded to 3.2.40 (right around this time frame), my cache folder changed back to its default location on the root drive (C for me as this is W2012 server).  I changed it back to the folder I set up on my SSD when I discovered the cache location had changed.

Again, everything else seems to be working fine, just the Scene images are missing.

Have you run the scheduled task? What is an example of a video that is missing chapter images?

Posted

I have ran the scheudled task "chapter image extraction" several times. It completes in a few seconds. I've attached a screen snip of a movie as an example of what I see. There is a black box where the image used to be. If I select one to play from that point, it will play fine - just the image is missing.

I know this is not a big deal in the whole scheme of things and it seems I am the only person with this problem. If there is a database somewhere i can delete that contains these images, i can do that and let Emby recreate that database through a new image scan.

That said, i would like to avoid deleting the library.db. Mine is slightly larger than 600MB in size. last time i did that it took a long time to re-populate.

What kind of videos are these?

Posted

the one above was an MP4. It does not matter if its an .mkv or an .avi.. it is not limited to movies, it can be an episode (for me, episode are in a different library). what seems to matter is the date. Anything after 11/18/17 has scene images, items before do not appear to have scene images (I can not tell you if its every item before 11/18/17 - some analysis lead me to the date of 11/18/17.  i've not checked everything in all of the libraries).

Thank you for the continued support!

Update - (perhaps this is a bit obvious) if I move an item (movie, episode) out of a library, scan the media libraries, move the item back it to the library where it originally was, re-scan the media libraries, the scene images populate correctly. I would assume this behavior normal as emby would purge the moved item from its database(s) and re-add the item when its re-discovered.

What I did not expect was that the "added" date was not changed from the original date the item was added to the library (say, 10/21/16). The item did not show up as a "latest movie" either. This is good as I can follow this process for large chunks of the library and fix my problem over time (without deleting library.db and starting over).

before i do that and possibly break something else, I would like to vet out if there is a specific database I could delete that holds just the scene image data? Or, if there is some other process I should follow.

Thank you,

DCA

the added value is stored in nfo metadata files, so if you preserved those files then that. if there is no nfo metadata, then it's based on the date created time stamp of the file.

under the server's metadata folder there are sub-folders for library items, and each item has a chapters folder with images. you could probably do a search to delete all those chapters subfolders, then run a library scan.
