Library scan not dereferencing symlinks to media

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Here are some examples of various ways media files can - and are - stored on Linux machines.  In all cases the expectation is that the media is both visible and browsable to the emby media server. However, only in cases 4 & 5 are the media file both visible and browsable.

In particular, cases 1 & 2 are THE standard methods of balancing storage across multiple drives on a Linux system.  Case 3 is used by some drive pooling extenders.

Test scenarios

1) Library folder symlinked: neither visible nor browsable

2) Media folder symlinked: neither visible nor browsable

3) Media files symlinked: folder visible, media files not visible to library scan

4) Media file present, all other files symlinked: library scan detects media, all other symlinked files are accessed without issue.

5) All directories and files present in the search path: [don't need a picture for this ...]

[edit]  Looks like I'm not the first one to run in to this issue: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/23407-help-with-shortcut-not-showing-up/
