VPN - Emby with different IP's for local and remote access

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I'm running a VPN Server at home on the same machine which contains the Emby server (Win7) with a classic tap configuration .

LAN: 192.168.2.0/24

VPN 10.8.0.0/24

Everything works fine when accessing the server from in- and outside.

What I try to accomplish is to connect to the server without manually tiping in the IP of the server. I've set the priority from my LAN higher than the VPN TAP Adapter, so the IP on which Emby is reachable via auto identification is the LAN IP. When outside home, I have to give in the VPN IP of the server everytime manually because VPN and DNS seems a bit more complicated. I thought of something like manually adding a second server entry like "Server remote" with the VPN IP. But that does not seem to be possible atm.

Any tips or hints are greatly appreciated.

I actually do something similar, my vpn is on my Linux server through openvpn.

Instead of giving my openvpn full network access to my lan I don't rewrite the default gateway for clients I just push a route for the emby server.

Internally or externally I use the same emby server ip.

My guess is your not re-writing the clients default gateway, but if you don't push a route you would get exactly what you having... like I say its a guess.

If your using openvpn as a host I can pm you the route command/line I have in my config if you need :-)

A PM would be great. I read and tried a lot about it the last week's but the routing and gateway seems tricky, [emoji16] If you are willing to review my config just pm
