episode numbering and media folder questions

Hi,

i'm a new user to emby, installed it a few days ago after my plex subscription ended.

so far i'm loving it for the most part, but for a new user it's somewhat harder to setup than plex, same goes for the app on the phone, which is a little more puzzling at first. I do love the multi-user part of the mediaserver.

first question/remark, is it possible to change how the episode numbers are shown in emby? At the moment it's shown as "s1, e1" while personally i like a format like "S01E01" better, i don't know if this is possible though.

secondly, i've noticed that every media folder is combined into one of the main categories (tv shows / movies / etc) while in plex if i made a main category called for example "kids movies" and one called "movies" and i pointed both to corresponding folders on my hard drive, they would both show up seperately.

so basically in plex i would get 2 different media folders to show up, while in emby i have movies and both are combined into one big list.

I would be extremely happy if it would be possible or in anyway doable to get the media folders mentioned seperately on the first page like they are added in the configuration page, instead of being bundled together.

Hi, for your grouping problem click on your user icon top right and go to settings > home screen > my views and in there you'll see your folders and you can untick the ones you want to appear separately.

@@Latchmor, i know that part, but it would be nicer if i could actually see and browse through the different media folders seperately, and not have the kids movies between the adult movies, if my nephew (2,5 years old) is here, or if my sister at her place wants to stream to her chromecast for him, he always wants to look at the screen of the phone and select a movie himself,

i myself am a major horror fan, and i reckon around 50% of my movie list consists of horror movies, for some reason i don't think its very apropriate for him to see some of those posters yet :) (don't want to give him nightmares) Using a different account is somewhat of a pain as we have to switch between accounts then if he wants to see something, and switch back later if we want to see something ourselves.

same goes for the tv series, i've got a few which i have double in my library, one in the original english language and one in dutch for my nephew :)

Having to use multiple accounts, is somewhat of a pain and it would be lovely to see the different media folders seperate on the home screen and browse them seperate as well, not having to switch between accounts :)

and it's not only because of my nephew to be honest ;), because of the possibility which plex had, i made several folders for my movies, one with subs, one which i couldn't find subs for at all, asian movies, and a few more, and i've had those as seperate items in my plex list, so i'm kind of spoiled myself :)

@@Luke, it was a pain to figure out how to get the subtitles shown on my chromecast,  it's wasn't all that obvious to me that it was something that's on a per users setting, didn't even know that i had such a page until after spending a long while in the server settings that i decided to google it.

Metadata, the episode name was the filename and not the actual name, wasn't really obvious to me either, but i've stopped emby from doing the metadata scraping and instead i'm using tinymediamanager for my series now as well, previously only for my movies. As long as the episode is properly named inside the nfo everything is good (apart from the s1, e1 part, can't really seem to like it yet)

Also i'm at a loss when it comes to the "mixed content", no matter what i'm doing it doesn't show up on the main page.

after finding the metadatamanger, i do have to admit i love emby more and more as i discover more of it :D, now back to editing the pictures because for some strange reason a lot of my shows have banners as primary images instead of posters.

Hi @@schaduwheer I'm confused because if you've done the user profile bit then this below is what happens...

"...it would be lovely to see the different media folders separate on the home screen and browse them separate as well..."

I have several TV type folders of Comedy, Drama, Sport etc and when I untick them in 'My Views' I get a separate folder for each just as you describe.

Did you complete the startup wizard? because the grouping should actually be off by default now. i'll have to retest that.

i didn't get the startup after installing emby, but i do remember that i have had mediabrowser installed, but never really used it as i decided t go for plex as the android app was better back then.

latchmor thank you thank you thank you soooooo much :D

it was a setting i had to untick under my profile page in order to not combine the folders, you have no idea how long i've searched for a solution before posting here :D it even shows up in the left menu now extremely amazing :D

ok, that would explain it, you have all the old defaults. if your previous installation was old you might even consider a fresh start, although if you're satisfied now then it's probably not necessary.

certainly your feedback here is useful and we will need to find a way to make some of these settings more obvious.

i think i'm going to do a fresh install tomorrow and see how that goes, if things are more obvious then, didn't even know that emby used to be mediabrowser :) forgot all about that one in the year i've used plex.

it's a shame though that i don't have the funds to become a supporter :( as i've recently broken my elbow and my income is now almost nothing, it was the main reason i didn't renew my plex, which in its own way is good because then i would've never found this one again :)

if i would uninstall emby and remove all mediabrowser related folders from my computer, how would that go with the images i changed? Would a fresh install still use the banners for the primary image? Or are these changed permanently?

and last but not least, which was the other question in my OP, can i somehow change the episode numbering? currently it shows as "S2, E11 - Deluge of Flowers", now after thinking about it, i reckon it would be hard to get it to show "S02E11" as that would mean that seasons past 9 get the extra 0 in front of it too, so you would get S010 which doesn't really look good, but "Season 2 - Episode 11 - ..." would be more pleasing to the eye, at least mine. (or at least get rid of the hideous , :P)

I reckon it's some sort of script that renders these names? Or is there a reason for keeping it short like that?

anyhow, one more aestethic question, is it possible to not show the scenes part in the webinterface? as i want to minimize the things my family could get problems/issues with ;)
