Annoying Metadata issue with WMC v. Emby

I spent several days going through my movie collection updating the metadata so the correct information (title, pic) would appear for each movie.  I have a modest collection of about 1200 movies but it still took some time.  Anyway, for whatever reason, whenever I try to play the movies in WMC on a networked PC, I don't get all updated metadata I spent two days updating.  I do get the updated metadata if I access "EMBY" from the WMC console on the PC, but I want the updated metadata to also appear in WMC on the client PCs.  Is there a way I can do this?

I occasionally like to watch my movies from WMC because Emby's player sometimes gets quirky and crashes when I try to play some movies.  And sometimes, it gets stuck on the title screen of a DVD and despite how many times I click on the "PLAY" for the movie, nothing happens.  I'm sure this stuff will get worked out over time, but meanwhile, I just want to be able to see my updated metadata for DVD collection directly on my PCs and Laptops.   REALLY appreciate some suggestions.

It's really irritating!!!

Here's my setup.

I'm running Emby Server on a Windows 2008 R2 Server called "mars" in a domain PC environment.  The domain controller is a separate server called "mercury".   The Win 2008/EMBY Server is called "mars".   It has a Raid 5 HD Array that I've named "THEATRE".  I've grouped my movies into subfolders on mars because I don't like too many movies per folder.

For sake of discussion here is my layout of my "THEATRE" drive.

G:\

movies

movieshd

movies metadata

others

tvshows

The movies folder is further subdivided as follows:

PRIMARY

MOVIES2

MOVIES3

MOVIES4

TEENMOVIES

KIDMOVIES

MOVIES4x3

The movieshd folder is further subdivided as follows:

PRIMARYHD

MOVIES2HD

Each of these subfolders listed above have movie subfolders with each subfolder containing a movie.  Most of the time, the folder is the name of the movie, but not always. I've limited the maximum number of movies per folder to 300, hence why I have "PRIMARY", "MOVIES2", etc.  I've limited Blu Ray folders to a maximum of 100 movies per folder (hence PRIMARYHD, MOVIES2HD).

The TVSHOWS folder has tv shows  in it all grouped together.  I don't have many tv shows so it's a bit of a clusterf*** right now in the TVSHOWS area, but I digress.

I've setup the movies metadata to go to this special "movies metadata" foider emby allows you to do, which seemed like a good idea at the time.  Route of my problem?

All domain users have a global group policy that automatically maps their network drives as follows

M:\ to  -> \\MARS\MOVIES

H:\ to -> \\MARS\MOVIESHD

T:\ to -> \\MARS\TVSHOWS

Unfortunately for each user, I have to go setup WMC for each user on each computer, which totally sucks.  One of the great reasons why Emby is better, but I am old school and still want to watch my movies flick by in WMC so do you guys have any suggestions?

In addition to my pcs, I have a Xbox One I'd love to get access to my movie server on and I have two blu ray players both of which can access Emby Server, but for whatever reason watching a movie on my sony blu ray players reduces the resolution and sound quality due 320kps?  I don't know it's awful, but I'm digressing again, and I really care about fixing my metadata issue in WMC to get it to match all the work I did on the Emby server.

Thanks!

Firstly you should never really (there are a few exceptions) have to do this manually, files with the right naming convention should get populated automatically.

There are a few people who don't keep to this but for your incoming media rename before letting emby at it to:

Tv

ShowName SXXEXX EpisodeName

Movies

MovieName (XXXX) Whatever

For movies xxxx is year, Whatever can be imdb id for exact match, but most tend to use 1080p/720p/etc

Setting emby for each user sux, but why not do one and either manually or with a script clone to the other users :-)

Regarding the sony bluray player you may likely find you can adjust this in the pre-set dnla profile, however it maybe like that for a reason, you will have to suck it and see on that one.

Finally your stuck meta on wmc is due to the wmc install not updating meta from emby server, either manually wipe from problem pc so it recreates or going into each one that's bad and doing a manual refresh may fix it, but I would just wipe the local copy of the meta it has and refresh, so it sees the library a new and actually updates from the server.

Just thinking out loud if you were to set one user up in wmc for emby you could potentially set the folder permissions to everyone and then just symbolic link to all the other users, which would use less disk and also one change in one profile effects all... just an idea.

i think the issue is wmc expects the old dvdid.xml files and emby server doesn't create those files. i'm sure there are utilities out there to create them based on your nfo/s

Your issue with playing DVDs via Emby for WMC can be resolved by checking the option in the playback config screen that disables the custom player interface for DVD rips.
