Server constantly disconnects

I was a user of the classic Mediabrowser, but recently bought a new computer.  I am attempting to get more comfortable with this new direction of Mediabrowser, or Emby, or whatever it's called now, but am extremely confused.  I was able to get my media scanned properly, and initially didn't have much problem getting the files to play through the web client.  However, off and on, the server would just randomly disconnect and I would need to restart it.  This would sometimes happen 3-4 times in a row before I could get a media file to play.  Today, I tried accessing the web client from another computer on a different network and the every time I try to Play a file, or search for a Title by letter, the server shuts down completely and needs to be restarted.  If I go to the local computer, I can see the Emby icon still in the System Tray until I hover the mouse over the icon, then it disappears.

I am using version 3.0.5675.1 Stable on a Windows 8 machine.

I am unable to locate the location of the logs as I cannot locate "%appdata%/MediaBrowser-Server/logs".

how do you define shuts down or disconnects?

Just as I described.  I start the server.  Go to webclient; select Movies; select any letter to scroll through movies and spinning wheel appears;  I go to System Tray and see Emby Server icon;  scroll over it with mouse and icon disappears;  confirmed with Task Manager as well.  All instances of Emby disappear as soon as I try to play a file or search through using a the Letter selector on the right hand side of the webclient.

I can repeat the process over and over.  Start Emby Server.  Try and play a file; web client hangs;  Restart Emby Server;  repeat process.

Well, the problem seems to have resolved itself...for now.  While awaiting your reply I upgrading my PC to Windows 8.1 Pro and downloaded the WMC app.  Tested the app and it worked fine.  Then went back and retested webclient from a computer on a remote network, and it works.  I'm not sure what was going wrong before...but thank you for your prompt responses.

If I saw programs randomly disappearing from memory and no error being displayed on screen, if your able just to relaunch and it works (ie antivirus hasn't quarantined it), the first things I would suspect would be something or someone was actively killing it.

Bad memory may give the same fault, but you should see this with other software, not just emby.

As luke said post the server logs, but I would also consider using a boot cd/usb on the machine and run a mem test and offline av scan.
