Confused - What do the folders do in the Emby add-on ?

Hi

We previously discussed about maybe adding the "Home Movies" to the Emby add-on so they could be accessed in Kodi without a native Kodi source pointing to them etc.

Looking in the Emby add-on I can see some folders:

But when you navigate in to them, you can see content titles listed but nothing happens when you click on a movie for example.

Are these just dummy folders which are part of how the add-on works?

For example if I select the "Movies" folder I then see this screen and if I then click on "Movies" again....

I see this screen, which then lists some movie titles. But you can't do anything with them or play them or see information or anything etc.

Its the same if I click on the "Home Movies" root folder in the Emby add-on I can see entries for my home movies but they don't do anything.

EDIT: In fact at the moment all my "Home Movies" are mixed in with the regular movie titles in the main movie library, which I can play them from there, as I changed their content type on the Emby Server to "Movies" rather than "Home Videos"

Thanks

I've also today just added some music videos to the Emby Server Library using the content type of "Music Videos".

These are just some of my favourite music videos and I manually created nfo files for them and artwork, so they could be added to native Kodi. Emby server has read all the nfos and artwork perfectly and are being displayed correctly in the Emby web GUI.

Now obviously at the moment I cannot see these in Kodi with the Emby add-on.

If I added a native Kodi source to point to this music videos folder and added it to the Kodi video library by using TheAudioDB scrapper / local nfos. Can this be done?

Can you mix the Emby content with other external source content in to the same Kodi local SQLite database ?

Here is how one of the music videos looks like in the Emby Web GUI - "Music Videos" section.

Sure, the quickest way for you to accomplish this is: in the add-on settings > sync options > uncheck enable music sync > OK then shut down Kodi. Delete the music database inside the %appdata% location. Start Kodi and you should be good to add your own music sources.

These are music videos not music mp3 files. So they would be added to the Kodi video library would they not?

And the dummy folders in the Emby add-on? They are just that dummy folders? that don't do anything as far as the user is concerned?

These ones:

Just trying to work out the best way to add other additional content like "Home Movies" and "Music Videos" that are not handled by the Emby add-on.

Many thanks

Doh, I really should go to sleep! haha I keep misreading posts.

Then no, not as of yet. It's only possible to not sync the music videos. It is on the trello board - to choose not to sync certain emby libraries but we are not ready yet to implement it.

As for the folders, they are playlists which are linked to the add-on. Very useful to make widgets specific to your Emby userviews.

Well that's it for me, I'll be back later.

OK think I understand LOL.

Might add a native Kodi source and point it to the "Music Videos" folder on the file server and just see what happens.

Thanks

I've just discovered where the music videos are located and it seems the Emby add-on is making them be there.

In my skin - Movies -> Videos -> Music Videos -> Title

55b10b31bc53b_musicvideos00.png

55b10aa145500_musicvideos0.png

I then see this screen:

I can then see all my music videos and I can click on them and play them OK.

Note: I have not created a native Kodi source yet to point to the music videos folder, so the Emby add-on is enabling these to be displayed not a source I have added myself.

55b1093f60c89_musicvideos1.png

Only issue is I have no metadata and have lost the Synopsis and what not, for example if I highlight a music video and press I for information on the keyboard I should see the videos info page but instead I see this:

55b109d0bc0b2_musicvideos2.png

So its kinda working with the Emby add-on I can see and play the music videos but not see their info pages.

This is the info page on the other Kodi / MYSQL system and how it should look:

Closed / re-opened Kodi and I can now also see "Processing Music Videos" appear during the Emby startup scan! Never seen that before now. Still cannot access any Music Video info pages though.

EDIT:

Looking in the Program add-ons area and going in to the Emby add-on looking at these dummy "Playlist" folders I can't see a new one for "Music Videos" not sure if there should be or not? But worth mentioning I guess!

If anyone wants to also test adding music videos to Emby Server Library using the folder content type of "Music Videos"

Here is a .nfo file I created and the Folder Structure and Files:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?>
<musicvideo>
<plot>"Take on Me" was the first single released by the band. An early version was recorded and released in late 1984 with an early music video. The song became a #3 hit in A-ha's native Norway but failed to chart in the United Kingdom. The band went back into the studio to re-record the song for the Hunting High and Low album, but a second UK release in early 1985 was again ignored. Before releasing their single in the United States, the band undertook the production of a new music video for the song, working with director Steve Barron. Barron had previously created hit videos for Toto, Thomas Dolby, Culture Club and Michael Jackson, but the A-ha video was unlike any of his earlier work. A plot-driven amalgamation of live-action and rotoscope-style animation by husband-and-wife team Michael Patterson and Candace Reckinger, it drew inspiration from Patterson's animated film Commuter and the film Altered States. The innovative video for "Take on Me" was first broadcast on local Boston music video station V-66, and soon after given heavy rotation on MTV.</plot>

I have noticed something today which makes more sense now.

If you go in to the Programs add-ons area and then go in to the Emby add-on from here and you browse say the "Movies" Emby Playlist folder, you will only see something like this screen shot and it won't do anything as I described above:

55b0f4fc549e3_addonfolders3.png

However if instead (In my skin at least) if I go to Movies -> Videos and then select the "Movies" Emby Playlist folder, it works from here and it takes you to the Movies library proper.

This is actually quite handy, as I was able to create a favourite of the "Kids Movies" Emby Playlist folder and then add it to my main Movies sub-menu in the skin and called it "Kids Movies".

Before in native Kodi / MYSQL, I would create a playlist to point to the path of the SMB share: \\server\kids movies but obviously when Kodi is using the Emby add-on you cannot do this as you have no SMB sources anymore.

So using these Emby playlist folders instead to redirect you to your shared folders on the server is very useful.

Yes that's why it's in place :)

Excellent, it makes much more sense now about the Emby playlist folders.

Any ideas about the music videos meta data / info pages?

Also there doesn't appear to be an Emby playlist folder for "Music Videos" not sure if that matters?

Many thanks

Hang tight. When we released the beta 1.1.15+, some changes I made didn't merge correctly. So this could well explain why things are wonky since 1.1.15-1.1.16.. Bear with me while I review our code from scratch again for the next few days. Sorry for the inconvenience. :( You can switch back to stable until then if things are completely broken.

No worries, version 1.1.13 seemed to be working well previously not sure how to revert back, unless you can use the Kodi add-on roll back feature. Anyways I will just leave 1.1.16 on for now and wait for the update and then review / test things again.

Cheers

Ok, you can just install it from the stable repo and disable auto-updates so it doesn't try to install beta over it (since you have the beta repo installed). But thanks for your patience and helping test beta @@cw-kid. I doubt I'll be getting much rest for the next few days  :( until this is resolved and things are back on track.

Well you guys are still doing an amazing job on the Emby / Kodi integration! Its going to be a fantastic system when its completed! And its not critical for myself as you know as my main Kodi HTPCs connected to all the TVs in the house are still connected to MYSQL.
