Dan64 30 Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 (edited) On my Server installation MB3 has collected the reference to about 29k actors. Looking to the page none of these has an image. It's possible ask to MB3 to refresh from internet the images of these people. I mean MB3 is able to look to the name of the people whitout having any imdb reference ? Dan64 30 Posted November 24, 2013 Author Posted November 24, 2013 Since I don't have received any reply yet, I will try to explain better the issue. In MB2 I was using MCM to download the movies infos and the actor's image. It was just enough to set in MCM the folder "IBN\People" as location to store these images. The solution was working in MB2 and in the "IBN\People" where were the right images. Moving to MB3 I copied the content of MB2 "IBN\People" folder to the MB3 server "IBN\People" location. I have discovered that the MB3 server is ignoring these images. If for example I set the correct imdb code in MB3 the image is downloaded but is not stored in this directory, in Summary even if I have already a lot of actor's image, these pictures are ignored. So I guess that I have to store all these (people) imdb codes in MB3, but since are several thousands, I'd like to know if it's possible to do this automatically or if the API Client allow to do that.
Solution Luke 42077 Posted November 24, 2013 Solution Posted November 24, 2013 it's because we have a new convention. it's imagesbyname/people/A, imagesbyname/people/B, etc 1
Dan64 30 Posted November 24, 2013 Author Posted November 24, 2013 it's because we have a new convention. it's imagesbyname/people/A, imagesbyname/people/B, etc Could you also advise Pete about this issue ? thanks.
DarkKniyt (John) 6 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Wow - this is a real issue! How do we transfer all of our actor images to the new format? I have 1000's of them. I have the "Use Custom Images Path" set to use my "Images By Name" path on my network. All of my metadata is filled by Metabrowser. Will I no longer be able to use Metabrowser for Actor Images?
Luke 42077 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 27 cut and paste operations:) I already told fatal about it 1
DarkKniyt (John) 6 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I spoke with Fatal and he thought there was a setting in MB3 that could be set to use the "Old" Images-By-Name path, is this correct? And if it is, what/where is the setting? It would be nice to have this option until Fatal releases his next version of MetaBrowser. Thanks.
fatal 8 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Hey, Found the post here: http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/1594-process-to-move-to-new-people-folder-structure/ Find server.xml and set EnablePeoplePrefixSubFolders to false. Take Care 1
gcw07 347 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 There is no option. It will understand both. Going forward the new method is preferred, but the old one still works.
Luke 42077 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 The old way will eventually be deprecated, so don't assume the setting is a way to avoid it entirely.
DarkKniyt (John) 6 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I have to beg-to-differ, but MB does not handle both structures - at least not for me. I had to do a complete new install the other day and afterwards I no longer had any actor images showing up. Since reading this post I have moved to the new structure and can now see the images in MB. As Luke stated, it's only 27 moves, but the real issue is going forward. Every new addition to a media library will require moving actor info into the new structure if we are using MetaBrowser or MCM. Not the end of the world but a pain non the less. For those of us using an outside metadata collection software, the "EnablePeoplePrefixSubFolders" is a nice option. Once Fatal releases his update for MetaBrowser then we will only have to "Move" the actor info one time. Again, I'm not complaining, It's not the end-of-the-world, just an annoyance that could be avoided if people were aware of the "EnablePeoplePrefixSubFolders". Thanks again for all the great work!
gcw07 347 Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Well it is still working perfectly fine for me using the old structure. Eventually I'll spend the time and fix the folders, but I just haven't got around to it yet. But no problems displaying any actor images. Really MetaBrowser and MCM need to be updated and fixed asap, but outside of informing them we can't do anything. I'd suggest trying the internal MB server fetcher.
Tanamur 53 Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 27 cut and paste operations:) I already told fatal about it This is about a 15 minute job and it looks like most of the single letters of the alphabet have been created as folders during the last People Refresh . What is the 27th folder name? #?
DarkKniyt (John) 6 Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Roku, I believe the reason it's working for you because you probably haven't done a complete reinstall, just updates. I installed MBC & Server when they first became available and the old Images structure worked. I ran into an issue last week and ended up reinstalling everything from scratch. That's when I noticed none of my actor images was showing up. At some point the option for "EnablePeoplePrefixSubFolders" option, it must have been changed from false to true, or newly added.
goodeye 0 Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Wandering slightly off, I have 31 folders - there are separate folders for letters with diacritics. I also have one with an apostrophe, due to single quotes around a name, as if they came through with a nickname in front. Hopefully MetaBrowser will keep up soon - I do like using it for metadata, mainly since I have it set up (e.g., I download all cast members; MediaBrowser seems to limit the number; perhaps there's a setting; I'm not looking to learn a bunch of new settings). So, I guess it's the nature of independent software to have to stay in sync. In this case, the subfolders are nice, because Windows still chokes on 10K+ items in a folder (to this day...). Oh, and thanks for the MB3 upgrade - it's great so far!
Luke 42077 Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 For the next release and in the current beta, behavior is improved to help with this. When scanning in new titles, even if you have existing metadata we'll still go out to the internet to try and pull in people information. Also, when opening individual person detail screens, there will be some on demand refreshing to attempt to fill in metadata for people that don't have any.
