I really hope you guys can sort out the stability issues with this app.

Rather than start a thread to something that may have already been answered, I'll ask here as I assume this is a general APP question thread.

If I install the server to my PC and then this app to my Samsung tablet, can it cast to my Samsung Smart TV using DLNA?

I currently use Plex server and their Samsung smart TV app, but their Android app does not cast unless I use a Chromecast which to me seems a little redundant.

I'm basically looking to use my tablet as a remote with eye candy.

Ok folks, a lot of work is being done on connectivity right now so hopefully you'll see improvements with the releases going out. We're beginning with connectivity itself and then we'll also improve the connection interface to present it in a consistent manner as the other apps.

Also we'd like to get any direct streaming or subtitle issues squared away, so please report issues on that. Just make sure you're on the latest version of both the app and the server.

I would be willing to take a crack at this.

Doh.. Didn't realize someone else was going to do this. Sorry @...

I've submitted the pull request for arrays.xml already.

When you guys get the new update that's been pushed you'll have the expanded bitrate options as well as support for camera upload!

Also I'd really like to get more feedback on whether you guys are satisfied in regards to direct streaming vs transcoding. We are actually querying the device capabilities to determine direct stream formats to get the most accurate information possible. That type of thing will ultimately lead to the best possible result but it does require independent testing on different devices.

do you want to see in network (local wifi) vs. remote/cell? Will it attempt direct stream if not on same wifi?

i'm more interested in those who reported issues about it before. it's not really a question of bandwidth but more about formats. So if you didn't report an issue before then disregard.

Do we have a list of what is supported for direct streaming?  I've missed it if we have.

Thanks!

i just covered that. it is whatever the device reports as supported.

I'm running the latest version of the Android app on an Android tablet. The tablet is running the Dutch language, but the app is in English. There is a Dutch translation for the app (100% translated), but it's not picked up by the app. Some months ago in this same thread I found some people noticing the same issue, but didn't find a solution for it. Does anyone know how to solve this?

Luke,

I get what you are saying.  Would it make it sense that for some of the more common devices, such as Fire TV and the Fire TV Stick, that we list in the Wiki what the formats are that are supported?  I think while the information is out there, it's not going to be easy to find for a majority of the users out there.  I know we cannot list every device, but as members of the community find this information, they can add it to the Wiki?

Just a thought!

Thanks!

Sure, although just list links to official docs to avoid them falling out of date.

Hmm, I guess that is the part where maybe I am missing something.  You simply are just talking about the Amazon Product page where it says this, right?

Video: H.264

Audio: AAC-LC, AC3, eAC3 (Dolby Digital Plus), FLAC, MP3, PCM/Wave, Vorbis

Photo: JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP

If so, that is going to be a pain for most folks to find I think?  The other issue I see is that saying all H.264 should direct play is fine, but at some point we need to figure out what the theoretical top bit rate we could support as well right?  I believe the latest version of the players goes up to 21Mbps, so as long as the client can attain 21Mbps, and the stream ends up being below that speed, it would direct play?

Also, that is just a codec, do we support H.264 in anything aside from mkv?  I only ever use the mkv container.

Maybe I'm just not understanding this, and that is the issue.

Strange, I helped Luke test this last week when he first got Camera Upload working. I told him about 2 sync accounts that appeared 'synaccount' and 'sync' and he said one was an old account which can be ignored. So mine currently shows syncaccount=on and sync=off and it's working fine. Do you only have one account?

This isn't true. You don't have to do anything with that. I'm not sure how that misinformation is spreading.

Luke,

Streaming at 40Mbps is working well on the Fire TV Stick, but still transcoding.  I believe it's most likely because most of my MKV's are mostly VC1 and AVC(High@L4.1).   The Fire TV Stick only lists h.264....  Now the full size Fire TV lists Mpeg4-SP and VC-1.  Am I right in guessing that for direct playback to work I am better off with a Fire TV vs the stick?

Thanks!
