dark_slayer 103 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 other then the over-scan (tried to adjust it but doesn't seem to work) the current version works perfect on the Nexus Player!!! just ditched plex for this!!!! 5.1 sound works perfect as well!!If you look in settings you may also be able to change back and forth between mobile and TV layouts. I haven't gotten to play with my new player very much yet other than side loading this, xbmc, and sideload launcher then casting a few songs and YouTube videos. Need to find a more permanent xbmc or mbandroid placement for it though, because when I was casting YouTube it kind of stuck on the YouTube splash screen after I disconnected my phone from the cast. Had to press back which took me to home rather then where I was when I initiated the cast (tried with both xbmc and mbandroid - both ended up stuck on YouTube and backed to the home screen) 1

ebr 16169 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 The Nexus Player is designed around the new Android TV "Leanback" UI concept. While this app may still work on such devices, we will be producing an app specifically for this interface that uses the standard Android TV look and feel. 2
dark_slayer 103 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Sounds great. The interim stopgap is already pretty nice though
noxx 3 Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 great app. but i miss a a auto logout. this app save the last user also with password. not good, i user a profile for kids and one for parents. please add a option “logout after exit“
kevinp 2 Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 I'm a recent convert from Plex. I needed a way to share my library with a family member in another State and Plex just isn't there yet. Media Browser is, but has a few bugs... Last night I watched an episode from a show in my "TV Shows" folder. When it ended, the screen just turned dark and the app wouldn't do anything. So, I turned off my Moto G and laid it on the night table. The next morning, the screen was still dark and a messagebox said the app wasn't responding, do I want to end it. Even after I press OK, the screen stays dark and the app still won't respond. I have to actually go into Settings / Apps and "Force Stop" the app before I can use it again. And it does this everytime I use the app and watch anything. Here's a link to the logs: https://app.box.com/s/w406li6rj5jpq9wjoxec
wraslor 70 Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Side loaded the app onto my fire stick and it works great, the only question I have is there a way to get 5.1 audio? I don't see any audio options in the settings and I am only getting 2.0.
noxx 3 Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 i think the problem is, the app is designed for tablets and smsmartphones. which smartphone has 5.1?
manf0001 4 Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) Hello, I'm using Mediabrowser server in my Open Media Vault NAS. Works great, and I love the web interface. I'm also using the android apps one on my phone and on a MyGica 1200 TV set top box. Works great however there are a few suggestions I would like to make to help improve upon the software. In some cases I have to switch between Mobile and Television mode for some things. In TV Mode: Have an option to search by Genre for the videos, instead of having to scroll through pages to find my show or movie. and option to search music by Album, Artist, or Genre. Also I noticed if I try to play my playlist in TV mode, it won't play all the way through. I have to manually select each song after one another. But in Mobile mode it goes through the list fine. I know that I can choose mobile mode for the above features, but when using my android box I am unable to pause my selection like I can in TV mode, if I back out of it and start it up again it will start over again. And It would be nice if it's possible for on mobile devices to have a offline copy of songs/playlists so you don't have to stream them if it's not possible. (I have been seeing rumours of this possibility so I hope they are true) Thanks Edited January 23, 2015 by manf0001
allen00se 18 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 any news on when the big update with the 10' UI will be released? There was a blog post a while back talking about sometime in January.
ebr 16169 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I'm afraid circumstances have pushed that timeline back a bit.
Luke 42077 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Yea we're working on the foundation of the app to stabilize it, and give it the same "just works" factor that the web client has. The current app has a strong feature set but we're very aware of all the reports of crashing and general instability. It is our top priority right now. when it's done it will be awesome, and a single code base for every form factor. and Ebr and I are handling it personally to make sure it gets done right, just like we did with the Roku app and Chromecast. Now we are going to make Android our baby. It won't be that much longer than it would have been otherwise, so, in the end it won't end up being a big deal. 5
mediacowboy 438 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Does that include the Amazon Fire TV and Fire Stick?
Luke 42077 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Everything, including all tv flavors - Fire, Leanback (Nexus), and everything else. In the meantime, the current app will still function just fine. Except what Ebr demoed in his blog post recently - i expect that to be fairly soon. 1
pmac 143 Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Will the new 10' UI App add any features that the current "TV mode" doesn't have? I just found out about TV Mode, and it's amazing! Thanks Dev's

Thanks Dev's The new app is a completely different design targeted specifically at Android TV devices. There are certain design guidelines that need to be adhered to for this new platform and this app will use those. The point is to operate more like a Roku (but with a much prettier interface) and less like a tablet.

Does this mean the new app will only work on the new Android TV boxes? or will it also work on other devices (Android Mini-PC's) running older versions of Android? (Kit Kat, in my case)

(Kit Kat, in my case) Yes, it means the new Android TV app will only work on true Android TV devices (running 5.0+). There will also be a TV layout in the current app that will support other android devices.

There will also be a TV layout in the current app that will support other android devices. Ah I see... hopefully I'll be able to get 5.0 on my RikoMagic, not sure if it's possible or not though. The TV layout looks great so far, but I found it to be very buggy, and couldn't get it to play anything for some reason. Also, I couldn't change the home screen from "Recently Added" to "Next Up" (Presumably because it's still a WIP)
manf0001 4 Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 The TV Layout in the current Android app is good, I just wish we can browse by Genre instead of everything right there. And play music Playlists properly. Here's hoping for the roll out soon.
Damstas 9 Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Hi! Does the Android TV app include "instant recording" feature. Pressing (usually the red) button it starts instant recording, or recording already ongoing broadcast. If it does, count me in as future user!
ebr 16169 Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Well, we may have Live TV in the Android TV app (it isn't yet) but there is no record button on Android TV remotes. They are very limited. A dpad, back and home buttons. That's it.

A dpad, back and home buttons. That's it. Live TV is a must have feature. New TV sets from Sony, Sharp and Philips will use remotes with Android TV. Could it be possible to use those to control Live TV?
ebr 16169 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I'm expecting ATV itself to get some native Live TV options but we probably will still implement our interface in our app - just haven't gotten there yet. As for using extra buttons, it is a requirement of all Leanback apps that they be able to fully function with only the controls I mentioned so any other button responses would be secondary to on-screen controls and something I would look at later down the line when there are devices that can actually use them.

There will also be a TV layout in the current app that will support other android devices. EBR, this support of Other Android Devices, is that for 5.X Android devices, or will it support 4.X as well?
