jhs39 13 Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 I finally had enough today and I'm going to stop using Emby and switch to Plex full-time because Emby has become ludicrously buggy. When I go into my Emby server on my Windows 7 computer the message "An Error Has Occurred" has become the norm rather than something that happens on rare occasions. Emby refuses to populate information for some movies, musical artists or musical albums, cannot find artwork for items where the server itself located database information for the album or movies, gives error messages nearly every time I click browse artwork forcing me to download it manually from Google. I wasted 7 hours yesterday adding covers to albums where Emby found the Musicbrainz info itself but still wouldn't populate any information. I would try to update and either get the spinning circle forever or get an error message because Emby couldn't communicate with the server. This happened not once or twice but every single time and this has been the case for a while. I was manually adding album info and artwork for a while but after hours I ran out of patience and switched to just adding album covers. Maybe I'll try Emby again in a few months to see if it actually works like it's supposed to but for now I'm switching to Plex full-time because when I add music and movies I can just play play them without wasting hours trying to get everything to display properly for the Roku app.
Chillout 110 Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Well, some Emby Beta of the releases do create a lot of problems but I found the release/stable versions have been fine. Sometime the latest and greatest does come with a price.. Note: i ran both PlexPass and Emby side by side for 1-year and asked my family & friends to try both. They use Rokus, Web, and Chromebox. Eventually, they all started using Emby exclusively and I just decided to drop Plex completely as an option. Everyone said that they liked the look and features of Emby.
jhs39 13 Posted July 12, 2015 Author Posted July 12, 2015 I'm running Emby Version 3.0.5666.8 which is incredibly buggy, at least for me. Someone suggested sticking to stable releases. Is there a way to install whatever the previous stable version was on my computer? I've been looking for download links and even found a thread where someone specifically requested a download link to an earlier stable version but as far as I can tell the link was never provided. Is there a way to install an older stable version of Emby Windows Server when everything worked more or less?
jhs39 13 Posted July 12, 2015 Author Posted July 12, 2015 Is there a way to rollback the version I currently have installed to an earlier stable release? There's also a difference between enjoying the Emby media database and maintaining it. The maintaining part on Emby is taking up way too much of my time.
Chillout 110 Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Assuming you are running the beta version, you can always download and install the stable version. The problem is that it will try to update if you have the settings set to beta. I was having all sorts of issues with the metadata not loading or randomly going missing. I fixed my issues by putting the cache and metadata in its own folder and not stored with the media. I also put it on an SSD because I thought maybe the spin up time of a drive in sleep mode was causing problems too. Have you tried the advanced refresh option? That seems to load the metadata fine most of the time. For movies I sometimes will have to put the IMDb # in for the movie to recognize but otherwise I dont have a problem. It could be its not picking up info from the filename. I use http://therenamer.com/ to rename my movies and tv shows into a standard naming convention.
AdrianW 1058 Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Updating always keeps the previous version in a folder called "System.old". Stop the server Go to %AppData%/MediaBrowser-Server Rename "System" to "System.bad" Rename "System.old" to "System" Start the server You should be now back on the previous version
XiaNYdE 13 Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 I was the one asking for the link mate, yes it was buggy as hell for me as well and was released as a stable version so no going to the site for a fresh download, i ended up doing as Adrian has described above, just make sure you disable the auto updates or else it will just re-install.
AdrianW 1058 Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 3.0.5667.1 was giving a black screen. Version 3.0.5667.2 is OK.
jhs39 13 Posted July 12, 2015 Author Posted July 12, 2015 The problem is that if the above instructions will roll back Emby to the previous version stored on my computer that still won't be a stable build--there have been multiple beta builds in a row so I will just roll back to another beta version. I switched my auto updates to stable--I might just have to wait until Emby comes up with a stable build and stick with Plex for now since it has none of the buggy issues Emby currently has.
jhs39 13 Posted July 12, 2015 Author Posted July 12, 2015 How can I download and install the stable version? I have tried the advance refresh option but I had no more luck with that than the regular refresh.

If you need a stable environment then you shouldn't really be on beta builds. Emby is under constant development, adding and improving features, so beta releases sometimes have issues.
