Hi, I brought my nexus 7 away on hols with me hoping to connect to the server back home. A couple of things

Initially it just hung on the loading screen, however I've finally realised that is probably set to connect to the local ip by default, so I deleted the app data and tried to set it up again. So if it cannot find the stored address it would be helpful if it said so rather than just hanging

Secondly when I go to enter the remote server address after I enter it the following screen effectively asks you to press "finished" but if I do that, the option above is on "cancel" rather than "ok" and there is no way I can see to choose "ok".

So remote nexus is not working. Am I being stupid and missing something?

Hopefully that explains a bit better?

The on screen keyboard isn't the best design in the Android TV app, but that's Google I believe and not the app.

With a remote control, you can move the cursor around until it gets to the correct location, but on a Nexus 7 that's not available.

If you can't get it to position correctly, then can you connect to your server via the web client on your tablet, or install the Android app.

Have a good holiday :)

Yeah, IMO, the OSK is terribly designed - at least from a navigation point of view.  I've never figured out how to get that "Finish" button to work properly (which could be a shortcoming on my part but it isn't intuitive).

With a remote, hitting "back" while the keyboard has focus will put you back on the dialog where you can then move focus to the OK button and press it.  So, try that.

Sorry I really didn't help matters here, probably didn't help that I wrote that after a night out. It's the nexus player not 7.

So I followed @@ebr s instructions and while pressing back does take you back to the upper dialogue, then clicking ok is the same as clicking cancel, ie it goes nowhere.

On the plus side Croatia is a great place for a holiday[emoji3]

What I don't understand is how I set this up at home under the same circumstances? Or does it auto detect on the home network?

Is that Emby Connect you're trying to use in the image in the first post?

I think it will auto detect when at home.

It must have auto detected.

Yes that is the connect details behind but that's the screen you see when the app first opens up, you can either use connect or enter your address manually but even if you choose manual that screen stays behind. I've never used connect properly, I tried twice and it buggered up the firewall settings both times so I don't touch it any more

Do you have a tablet or phone that you can use to test the connection back to your server using the external (DDNS) address ??

The connection works fine from my iPad, it's just I can't enter the address on the nexus

Have you installed the Nexus Player remote app ??

Oh wait, you have an iPad :(

Anyone with you have an Android device, other than the Nexus Player ??

[emoji3]nexus7 is at home, there's a limit to the devices I can bring on a 1week hol with me [emoji3]

I'll be home tomorrow, just would like to be watching the cricket. But this may be a bigger problem for someone trying to connect remotely permanently

Not sure what could be going wrong.  Exactly how are you entering the address?  Are you sure whatever network you are on is letting the traffic out?  Does the server use the standard port?

Yes, the connection works fine. As I say it works no problem on iPad. It is purely the entry of the server address into the nexus player emby app and after entering it defaults to "cancel" not "ok" so that when you press finished for the second time (also never understood why this has to be done twice, same as on password entry) it cancels. You never get the option to hit ok. Can take a video tonight before I head home if you would really like?

I'm confused because those two statements appear to be at odds.

I know hitting "Finished" on the pre-build Android keyboard is not going to work but you said hitting "OK" also doesn't work...

Well I could only get to choose "ok" by hitting the back button rather than "finished". But it seems that hitting the back button cancels the previous address entry so that even when I pressed "ok" it just goes back to the start. My desc is poor, I'll take a quick vid before I head home tomorrow
