^^ Seconded.

What is the application process for being an Alpha?

Are there minimums required for your library, PC, or tech savvy?

MBT is actively being worked on with updates to the code at least daily. Testing is also in progress to our group of testers.

Patience people. It's coming along nicely.

Asking for Patience after 2 years is a bold thing. Yes, I know this is the second rewrite but we've been promised this new version for two years now.

Don't really know what to say to that....

Ungrateful springs to mind.

Remember who is writing this new version. The guys that basically writes most of the clients, oh yeah and the server.

And this time it has traction and momentum.

So yes be patient and less rude.

There there everyone.  Let's keep it friendly.

Yes, I do apologize for the amount of time it has taken but I can assure it is moving extremely rapidly right now and the wait is going to be worth it. A lot of work was done on one rewrite, and then earlier this year I decided that a different technology would be better for us. This is technology that was not available at the time the original app was developed, or at the time that the first rewrite began. I am extremely happy with the results. Not only is it superior, but it's going to allow us to go multi-platform as well. So try to hang tight, it shouldn't be too much longer.

Does it mean that emby theater will be multiplatform?

So no more directshow?

Quick question.  I'm waiting for this new version to upgrade server/client HTPC to Windows 10 and finally say goodbye to WMC.  I have a Hauppauge tuner.  Will Emby server's new live TV utilize this tuner without WMCserver or is that feature only available for HDHome run tuners?  If it does work, I'm assuming I can ditch WMC and the WMCserver and use only Emby server's live TV and Theater?

It will use existing emby live TV features so you will need a plugin for that tuner.

There are other Live TV backends you could use too. I used NextPVR with success. I don't use it now only because I have an HDHomerun Tuner so I can take advantage of Emby's core Live TV feature.

Ok so if I want to avoid using a plugin like WMCserver or NextPVR then I have to buy the HDHomerun tuner correct?

Yes. While I have never used the tuner you have, I have used others and I love my HDHomerun tuner the most. I have an Extend and a Prime.

Does anyone know if there's any possibility of EMBY natively supporting DVB-S tuners in the (not too distant) future, if at all ?

Or dvb-t tuners, so we don't have to use addons and other backends.? Edited by MadibaJ

I'll be honest, for those with HTPC's, ET could be the saviour of Emby as we know it. I know the plan is 'Emby Everywhere', which is good, and it sounds like you've got a strong bunch of devs working on it now, but for those who are still clinging onto WMC with a full HTPC in their lounges, ET is where it's going to be. My take is;

WMC is dead, so Emby Classic will go that way too eventually. I think we all realize that.

I've tried Emby on the Nexus Player and FireTV. I like the interface, but playback of most media is erratic (so many times I get 'Video Playback Error' messages), and video quality is just shocking (poor black levels, no upscaling, everything displayed at 60hz etc, although I know not all of this is Emby's fault).

Kodi with Emby Plugin. I just wish it would play anything and not just tell me the item is no longer available. With a lot of effort, Kodi could be good, but I think the devs have lost focus of what makes an easy to use, family friendly media player. It's just too bloated and complicated now.

I was really disappointed that MBPlus development stalled, but I guess it makes sense as that was really something only Emby Classic could use. I loved that replacement EHS. I can only hope that ET will have some of that functionality rolled in.

So, Theater is where it's at for me now. That's where my focus will be when the new version is available.

I totally agree with above post and can't wait for ET. I am one of the artists over at fanart, and just wondering if you have spot for discs and most importantly cleararts. We spend mountains of time creating the art and would hope it is being allowed for in the layouts.

I'm certain disk art, as well as clearart, will be at theme Devs disposal... As for the default theme, no so sure as of yet.

At the moment we're not using them in the default theme although i can envision seeing character art in the video player OSD. but theming potential is going to be incredible just on account of how easy it's going to be.
