lifespeed 42 Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I am guessing this is a server side issue, although I could be wrong. Does Emby only support playing media files, as opposed to ye olde DVD folder structure? If DVD folder structure (menus, etc) are supported is there some configuration or folder structure on the hard drive I am not doing correctly? Folder structure is: D:\media\movies\movie_1\VIDEO_TS\
Luke 42080 Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 We support dvd folder structures, however, to different degrees based on the app. The apps that have native dvd support can handle them just fine. For the apps that have to rely on server transcoding, we consider it experimental, so your mileage may vary. But in terms of library organization on the server, it has full support for them.
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Absolutely supported by some client apps as Luke said, but not necessarily recommended. For most users converting those to MKV will make for a far smoother experience as the DVD structure isn't particularly streaming-friendly. You can convert to MKV without reencoding at all if you like, using tools like MakeMKV. You'll lose the menus but in my experience the emby UI is easier to use than almost any DVD menu.
lifespeed 42 Posted July 1, 2015 Author Posted July 1, 2015 Thanks. I am using Emby Classic on my home network with "shadow" directories (not sure if that is the correct term, but the shared media folders are mapped for direct playback without transcoding to networked PCs). I also have Emby Android app. Android app doesn't play DVD at all. Emby Classic I think often does not work. The DVD folder movies do appear in the collection, of course. It sounds like the best thing to do is ditch the DVD folder structure for MKV container files. Should save a few GB of space.
