kolbasz 20 Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Maybe I am missing something, but in the process of importing my albums, I am missing a lot of my album art/covers. I have taken the time to properly tag 95% of my media and therefore, the art is there locally. When scanning, is Emby pulling all new metadata from the internet? Is there any way to force it to look locally first or also if it cannot find it remotely? Sure I can manually go back and point to the local images, but there are far too many. I have even told it to update missing metadata, but that doesn't do much. Is emby able to read the id3 tags and if so, what version does it expect, 2.3 or 2.4? Some of my most recent aditions were tagged with beets and have the musicbrainz ID in the tag, but these too are missing art, so I am assuming the issue is not on my end, but who knows.
Luke 42077 Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 It always looks locally first and yes we do supported embedded tag metadata. if you think you're having an issue, best to post a specific example: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/790-how-to-report-a-problem/
kolbasz 20 Posted July 19, 2015 Author Posted July 19, 2015 OK, its pretty simple. Using the stable release, so I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. I imported my media and a lot of images are there, but not everything. Album art is missing, but below you can see the image exists in the tag, plus the art exits as its own file as well Clicking images, emby sees two online options, but it still didnt use them Forcing emby to refresh metadata resolves the issue in most cases. Tell it to pull missing data and images, after which the album art is there. So i guess I don't understand why it doesnt do it by default. When I try to force the same update on the entire library, it just spins and nothing happens. Not sure if it is a matter of the amount of files, but global metadata refresh fails, only the single album refresh works. I dont know if I should remove the media and scan again or something else. Or if I need to move to the dev version of the server.
kolbasz 20 Posted July 21, 2015 Author Posted July 21, 2015 Is there a way to only clear the music part of my DB and re-import or is it all metadata (movies/TV/music) or nothing?
Luke 42077 Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 No but that would just cause the same thing to come back anyway. What is the folder structure of that example?
kolbasz 20 Posted July 22, 2015 Author Posted July 22, 2015 Pretty standard. Artist \ year - album \ track# - song One thing I did discover is that some of my files had some permissioning issues. I have since corrected them, but still emby is not going back to pull in the missing metadata. When doing a full refresh telling emby to get missing images and info, the wheel just spins and I get no results. When I did this way back when with my movies, it caught itself up, but with the albums, it seems there is something it doesnt like or chooses not to do. Let me know if you want the server logs. Or, i guess I could throw up a second server, import the albums and see if it does any better.
Luke 42077 Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 That's one thing we don't currently do is retry. If it fails the first time, it's up to you to manually correct it. It's something we can improve on in the future but it's intended to prevent endless retrying.
kolbasz 20 Posted July 23, 2015 Author Posted July 23, 2015 ugh, I wont lie, but thats horrible. I dont need emby to auto-retry, but having the option to force it or to clear it and start again would be super useful. lets just use pretend numbers. I have 100 albums, 10 have issues, ok fine, lets fix them manually. But that is not realistic when you have say 1000 albums and 100 fail. I am using pretend numbers simply because I am not sure how many albums are missing the art. I simply know there are a lot and doing it manually will not happen. Further, even if it had issue using my local images, why wouldn't emby pull from the web or does this mean that emby was not able to identify an album? Does this same behavior hold true for movies and TV or is it just music? I am currently in the process of running all my albums through beets, will this make a difference to emby or am I stuck with the only option to improve being to try importing to a new instance of emby server?
