Everything in the server seems slow

5585cb05ac5bc_2015062016_17_42Emby.pngThis could be all my fault, so I wanted to ask...

I was running emby server using docker for a good while on a standalone ubuntu installation.  This week, unraid 6 went gold, so I upgraded and thought to move my docker apps over to there,  I installed the container and then proceeded to copy over all of my emby files from the ubuntu installation I had.  I figured this will save time configuring and importing my media.  I started the app and for the most part it is OK.  It runs and serves out my data.  I updated my kodi DBs and from that perspective things seem OK.  However, when I go to the webgui, I am missing images for the media.  I see the link for movies, but the image is not there.  It shows me an episode title and again no image.

As far as kodi goes, it seems to have the data as it looks normal, so I am trying to understand if what I did is a bad idea and if instead I should just start things over?

You really need to post this over the the server area.

Shoot, didn't think about it. So uses to posting here.

I think this all ties back to a permissions based issue.  Since I copied all the metadata from a ubuntu docker instance, I think the permissions were different.  In fact, I am sure of it, I ran the script in unraid to correct this and afterwards I could see some of the things I could not before, so it was 100% better.  I could actually see show metadata.  However, I am still thinking I have issues.  For this reason I want to start over.

When I try to go to the metadata manager, it just spins.  When I go to albums, newly added albums with known good images and tags have no cover art and I have no option to correct it because the metadata manager doesn't load...  It just seems to make more sense to start over importing my media.

The only other thing that could be impacting me is horsepower.  My unraid system runs on a Sempron 140 with 2GB RAM.  For unraid it is fine but it might impact other things, but then again, other than the media import, I am not doing anything special as the system is not transcoding, so who knows.

So lets start over, if it too struggles, I may chalk it up to a horsepower issue and look to upgrade in the near future, but my initial issue is certainly a permissions thing, so let me start again and see where it gets me.

It probably because you tried to transfer your db files. Emby doesn't support this. Once the system has become accustomed to the library in a certain path it must stay there or you must rebuild your database. Please rebuild your db.

is there an easy way to do this?  I was looking in the GUI and did not see the rebuild DB option

Blow everything in the config directory.

I took it a step further, installed the dev server as a new container, added only my TV share and let it run.

As it began pulling things in, cpu usage (mono) remained low, memory used about 500MB. Just like before, the web gui eventually became unreachable.

At this point, I don't think this is a emby issue. I feel maybe it is too much for the processor/memory or the disk running the container.

The disk is a raptor drive, so I would think it is fast enough, especially if I was on a standard spinning disk before too. The processor is a single core and there are only 2gb memory. While both have some headroom as they aren't maxed out, it might just be too much. I am going to ask in the unRAID forums just because I am curious. And also because I do think want to rip the whole system apart to try fixing things, only to have it not make a difference. Maybe they can shed some light of what is happening with unRAID /docker.

I think  you might have hit it on the nail. Feels to me like you just don't have enough resources.

the dynamic image generation can be slow on some systems. for the next release i am going to have this off by default. for you this is probably going to make a world of difference.

Is that where it generates a image from the video?

no - the fancy my media images on your screenshot up there

OK, so I upgraded my unraid system from 2GB ram to 4GB and now it seems things are happy.  As of this morning, the webui was still available, something that was not the case in the past.  Glad it was an easy fix.  Ill plan to upgrade all hardware one of these days, but for now it is sufficient.  What was broke is now fixed, so there is nothing else to fix...

Thanks guys
