Unable to connect to server using emby connect

I am unable to connect to my server from outside my home network using emby connect.  I primarily use the android app and it was working up until recently, not sure exactly when it stopped.  When I open the android app I am asked to log in to emby connect.  I enter my name and password.  I'm then asked to select my server from the list.  Once I chose my server it never connects.  I get a message saying it cannot connect to server.  I experience the same behavior using chrome for android when I go to http://app.emby.media

 

If I go to http://external.ip:8096 in chrome I can connect fine. It's emby connect that doesn't work for some reason.

 

I have tried removing my server from emby connect and re-adding it but that didn't help. 

 

Can anyone offer any other ideas?
