People images not updating unless manual refresh

Ok, I have run the update people task (and it runs itself) and it is still not updating the images for people. And there does not seem to be a metadata editor for people. That leaves me going into each person's meta info through a movie and doing a "refresh" manually on individual actors, and that works but way to time consuming.

Using the latest beta, Version 3.0.5641.1. Windows 7.1x64

Any ideas?

I am noticing this error as well, it fetches the people info from tvdb for all the tv actors, but the actors whom for which I have movies only, it doesn't seem to fetch any metadata from tmdb.

But if I do a manual refresh on those actors I do get metadata for them from tmdb, just like Tolerant mentioned above.

I am running beta Version 3.0.5641.4.

Same problem here with old stable version 3.0.5621.4.

Has anyone found a solution (or workaround) for this, yet? As reported above, the manual refresh of people works...The 'refresh people' task on my end climbs to 18%, then completes and doesn't appear to be grabbing anything. There also doesn't appear to be anything out of sorts within the log, which makes me wonder if it's more on the data source:

2015-06-19 11:16:16.6154 Info - App: Executing Refresh people
2015-06-19 11:16:25.8906 Info - App: People validation complete
2015-06-19 11:16:26.0170 Info - App: Refresh people Completed after 0 minute(s) and 9 seconds

(I am running 5648, BTW).

Think this is because server is hammering website it blocks the scraping, is mentioned somewhere. But now you'll have empty folders that the server doesn't re scrape, Google 'red' removes empty dirs. Then rescan, repeat if necessary.

Not the issue for me. I don't have empty folders. It does seem like I should have more then I do so only guessing, but it seems like they are not being created until I refresh. But I will check that now.

EDIT: Ok, looking at a current famous actor, "Sean Penn", the folder exists and contains a folder.jpg showing his image. However, when I view one of his movies, he is listed but with a blank profile image as if it was never scanned. So for whatever reason, Emby is not seeing that the picture exists and not updating within the webui to make it show up.

C:\Users\Tim\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\ImagesByName\People\S\Sean Penn

This is the correct path, right?

You said you did a clean install recently correct?  On new install IBN and Metadata were merged so you would need to ensure your metadata path is your IBN path or I can PM the old way from the system.xml

Yes it's a clean install, although I usually fetch first with MCM using the MB3 folder structure (first letter folders).

I do have Emby set to "Save metadata and images into media folders".

I was under the impression that whatever MCM doesn't find, Emby would fill in the blanks / download images for, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

How do I ensure my metadata path is the IBN path?

Edit: Seeing the "metadata" "advanced" tab that has a spot to list the metadata path. Are you suggesting that if I set that path, things will work again?

I understand coders make changes for reasons, but wth, everytime I try to get something working "right" I run into problem after problem because someone decided to just change things again and since I am not a coder and I don't read every single post I get left scratching my head going wtf?! and things that used to work are just fubar. Very frustrating.

Do you have (C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\metadata\people) with your new install?  You might has to migrate your people to new location or point metadata to new location.

Metadata-advanced (C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\metadata)

So, basically there is no "\metadata\ImagesByName\People\" folder, it was changed to just "\metadata\People\" instead. That explains a little about why I have only a few images in the old location, because MCM was putting them there but EMBY was not.  I just moved the "People" folder contents from the "old" location to the new one, edited my MCM config to reflect that path change as well. Now to run a scan and update the people and see if anything has changed. Thanks.

Edit: 48,000+ empty folders. Using "RED" to remove them before going further.

I just started a new thread on this that I will get deleted, didnt realize this was here.  So I also have a new install of Emby server, but the data from the old install would still be there in all folders.  Is there a way to "clear"  all metadata and start from scratch?   or would I have to manually delete all data except the media file from every folder?

One of those changes that are good for new users but totally screw up old users when they have to do a new install.

What metadata are you referring to?

Sorry I mixed myself up...  I am actually only talking about people info.  If I go and manually delete every folder in the metadata / people directory,  will that cause Emby to populate it all with pictures upon a new scan?

Using a Program called "RED" to do that now, but it allows me to only delete the ones without stuff in them instead of all of them. 48,000+ folders is a lot though, this is taking awhile and seems to be a bit of a 'hit' on the HDD. I don't want to end up losing another drive.

None that I have looked at have anything in them.  I think they are all empty?   Anyway,  if I do just delete them all and tell Emby to do "refresh people",  will that take care of the issue?

If you are wanting to start over with your people images then yes.

Ok - - hmm.. just did the erase and full refresh,  and still I would say 90% of the actor images are not there.  The ones that are tend to be minor stars of some kind.... although that is probably just coincidence.  Any other ideas to get them to show?

Depending on how much media you have it could take days or weeks to populate all the actors.  Emby can't just spam the provider and pull all of them at once.

Ohh -  I didnt know that.  I wll just keep tabs on it then, thanks.

It would be nice, if there was some sort of "People Pic Download Manager" to keep track of and fix / update images. Of course having 50k people folders is a lot to manage no matter what, being able to know if we have 5% or 95% of the images we should have and what is still "being worked on" or "yet to be updated" or is "unable to update" or "Missing image" etc.. would be a great thing.

For now, after removing those folders, doing the initial library scan on startup and then manually running the scheduled event to update people IS having an effect, it is taking quite awhile and I assume rebuilding (hopefully filling) those 48k empty folders I removed.

Ok, after all that.. I do have images for "most" actors. I am not sure why I ended up with a ton of empty folders that would not update, but removing them has for the most part solved the issue after rescanning and updating them by running the scheduled event.

I usually have about 5000 folders deleted when ever I decide to run RED.  But you did have a lot.  When every crew member is pulled for a movie there are a lot people out there with no information/images.

I have one server with 197,750 people folders, but only 65,361 images, and 189,151 person.xmls (41.4 G).

I have something like 60k+ folders, 40k+ empty, and I don't do crew members, (at least not set in MCM), only actors, guest actors and directors. If someone is that bent out of shape for a gaffer, lighting crewman or something.. they are kinda nuts imho. ;0 But I am re-running RED again (btw, set it to NOT delete to your trash, it is problematic with this many folders) and I will rescan. The last scan got me about 5k more then I had, from 15k up to 20k+, so I can hope for another 5k.. or I will find out many people do not have images available. Either way, unless there is progress I won't keep this process up (deleting empty, refetching, repeating) unless it fills another chunk of missing images. -- Still it is nice to see 4 out of 6 images for main actors showing beneath the movie info... it is a good start.

You might want to look at a movie.xml from MCM.

**Actually it is adding everyone to the movie.xml.  The entire cast list from IMDB.
