djlf 40 Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Guys, there seems to be an issue with latest Beta install. My Norton antivirus deletes it on install. This has caused me major headache. Have had to uninstall whole server. Stable release installs ok. Norton finds SONAR.Heuristic.120 Trojan . 1
FrostByte 5392 Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 I got a similar error with Symantec Endpoint, but allowed it to install with no problems 1
Luke 42081 Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 great, another false positive. can you find the report to see what file(s) it's complaining about? thanks, 1
FrostByte 5392 Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 These are the ones I found in my log from yesterday [sONAR heuristic Submission] File submitted to Symantec for analysis. File : 'c:\users\rick\appdata\roaming\mediabrowser-server\system\mediabrowser.serverapplication.exe', [sONAR heuristic Submission] File submitted to Symantec for analysis. File : 'c:\users\rick\appdata\local\microsoft\windows\inetcache\ie\36drqfpy\setup.exe',
djlf 40 Posted June 12, 2015 Author Posted June 12, 2015 same here - deletes the main application. have had to reinstall the whole library - nightmare!!
djlf 40 Posted June 12, 2015 Author Posted June 12, 2015 also have 2 folders now - emby server and mediabrowser server - with the application still being installed in the latter. Surely there should only be one install folder created?
Wheemer 50 Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Who still uses Norton? Surprised they are still in business. 3
djlf 40 Posted June 12, 2015 Author Posted June 12, 2015 thanks wheemer - that's a great help !!! others seem to be having probs with latest beta - I'm having a nightmare now - whole library has to be rebuilt. so only looking for constructive ideas please
djlf 40 Posted June 12, 2015 Author Posted June 12, 2015 why are there 2 folders - emby server and Mediabrowser server created in Roaming folder on install - after updating to beta the application can no longer be found in either- is update confused?
Happy2Play 9782 Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 why are there 2 folders - emby server and Mediabrowser server created in Roaming folder on install - after updating to beta the application can no longer be found in either- is update confused? That is were they have always installed to and if application can't be found then it was deleted or quarantined.
Raff 51 Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Apparently the heuristic is a little too heavy-handed: http://community.norton.com/en/forums/sonarheuristic120-newly-created-software-packages-compilers-removed Over in the Unity forum, they are seeing Mono flagged: http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/unity-4-5-mono-exe-virus-detected-problem.248291/ This thread suggests that anything without 10 users/false reports: http://community.clickteam.com/threads/82835-Norton-Security-keeps-thinking-that-my-applications-are-SONAR-Heuristic-101 If that is true, it is stupid. That is a very good way to make your product removed from a system. 2
ronvp 92 Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 check out this post. Norton reports false positives..you can fix it without reconfiguring EMBY http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/22456-holy-crapnorton-just-deleted-my-emby-server/ Norton is good stuff, but they should give you a choice before deleting or blocking an install.. or even better; switch to Microsoft security essentials..
FrostByte 5392 Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 (edited) My Symantec gives you the option. Well, actually in the options you can tell it to automatically take action or to prompt user what to do for these unknown files. When it came up on mine I just told Symantec to ignore the error and that the two file were good Edited June 16, 2015 by FrostByte 1
