RavRob 0 Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Here is the background story. I installed the server a couple of days ago but it didn't performed as advertized (so to speak). It constantly froze my Laptop (server machine) running Windows 8.1. It seemed to sync since it took 134 minutes and looked like it was all synced. Once sync'ed, it never put my movies in sets and never backed or sync'ed my watch status. On my other 2 machines (1 x PC running windows 7 and an Android Tablet running kitkat) it showed some movies but not all and no tv shows at all. All system were very sluggish and unresponsive. My server neeed to be forced reboot many times. I left my server laptop run all night and by morning it was still telling me "parsing 1 of 1568 movies". So I uninstalled the server and now my system is back to normal. After talking to a dev, I tried to re-install the server but the configuration screen remains stock on the screen to select the language. It remains unresponsive at that point. I can go no further. At this point there is nothing else I can do unless someone can tell me what I am doing wrong and how to move forward on this. Thanks Server on Windows 8.1 Running Kodi Isenguard 15 Beta 1
Luke 42080 Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 can you grab the server log? http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/790-how-to-report-a-problem/ thanks.
Luke 42080 Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Ok, first of all i'm not entirely sure of everything you mean. For instance, I can't even think of where we display "parsing 1 of X movies". But there are some errors I see i the log that would prevent normal operation. We are using operating system methods to get lists of files from folders, and these are failing on us. For example: 2015-06-11 12:39:55.5795 Error - App: Error resolving path E:\Movies *** Error Report *** The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. System.IO.IOException at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
RavRob 0 Posted June 11, 2015 Author Posted June 11, 2015 I don't know how this error can occur. I haven't gone far enough to even configure my movies in the server. I guess it is an old left over from the original install I had yesterday but I am not sure how I can go and make sure all of that is removed so I can re-configure the server correctly. Right now I can't go forward because of this error and I can't go back (I already uninstalled before re-installing). What, if anything, can I manually remove to make sure all left over are gone? I use "Your Uninstaller" which normally removes all traces, left over files and folders and also removes registry entries. So I really can't understand why this would still be there.
RavRob 0 Posted June 11, 2015 Author Posted June 11, 2015 maybe a configuration file left behind and kicks in after I try and re-install the server??
RavRob 0 Posted June 12, 2015 Author Posted June 12, 2015 (edited) OK so I removed every traces of the server. Even after uninstalling it, it left over 150000 files on the HDD. After manually removing everything, I reinstalled the server. I also used the beta addon for my two clients. It sync'ed everything and all seems to be working. now a few questions so I don't mess things up. 1. How do I play my content when I am away from home? 2. How do I get my content to group my movies in sets? 3. Do I still need the trakt addon to keep tabs on my watched status? Thanks for the help in getting this sorted out. RavRob 0 Posted June 13, 2015 Author Posted June 13, 2015 (edited) Tx for all the great support [NOT]. I have managed to remove this thing again. Re-instated my library with Genesis and Trakt and I am back to normal. Nothing beats the Genesis/Trakt pair. Certainly non Emby. Now I know. Edited June 13, 2015 by RavRob
Luke 42080 Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Sorry, I understand your frustration but I gave you the true problem with the device I/O error. You chose to zero in on the software by uninstalling and re-installing, which was never going to be successful but it seemed that was the direction you wanted to go in. I am happy you are up and running again with your new software, but sooner or later those device I/O errors are going to cause problems for other apps.
RavRob 0 Posted June 14, 2015 Author Posted June 14, 2015 (edited) Well I did remove the USB drive e that was causing the I/O error. Once reinstalled it just didn't perform as expected. Edited June 14, 2015 by RavRob
RavRob 0 Posted June 14, 2015 Author Posted June 14, 2015 (edited) BTW, the I/O problems only starting when I installed Emby and uninstalling Emby also fixed my I/O problems. My drive it back to it's original working condition showing no signs of any problems. Coincidence? I think not. If others have such I/O problems, do not format your drive, uninstall Emby instead.
