Mustang Dave 5 Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Anyone have any idea of whats going on... I have all the new versions, I added my music library back all was working, scans took a minute longer which was expected, no biggie... But not after the last update, my library may or may not show up after the library is scanned. Sometimes it won't show unless I reboot EMBY Server and sometimes during the scan it will say an "Unexpected Error Occurred" and it will go on. Once again I removed the music and all works perfectly... Any help would be great... Thanks in advance... music removed.txt reboot no music.txt server-63568579127.zip server-63568628696.txt server-63568713599.txt server-63568800000.txt server-63568881041.txt server-63568886400.zip
Luke 42078 Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 In some of your scans, some normal operating system methods are failing. For example 2015-05-31 00:25:05.7520 Error - BaseItem: Error getting file system entries for \\MEDIA-CENTER\Media2\Boxsets-Collections\Christmas The specified network name is no longer available. System.IO.IOException at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) Another: 2015-05-31 00:25:01.7220 Error - App: Error resolving path \\MEDIA-CENTER\Media\My Videos 01\Animated Series 01\Animated Series The network path was not found. System.IO.IOException at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) Are you possibly experiening network instability during a scan, or are you disconnecting the network during the scan, something to that effect? But basically, that is the root of your problem. At some point your machine becomes unable to access those network paths.
Mustang Dave 5 Posted June 5, 2015 Author Posted June 5, 2015 No... this is all on the same machine,,, the storage and the EMBY server and their are other paths going to that same drive... Were there other errors? But like I said I removed the music and it all worked and its also on another drive, but it is also located on the primary drive.
Luke 42078 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 If it's all on the same machine then I would redo your library setup to point to the directories than the UNC network paths. Then if you still have a problem we can go from there
Mustang Dave 5 Posted June 5, 2015 Author Posted June 5, 2015 (edited) It has been set this way for about 2+ years and multiple machines connect to it and multiple drives, why would it start now, I haven't changed the layout... And do you not suggest in the setup to use UNC paths? I have no issues accessing these drives from any other machine using mapped drives or using UNC paths if that helps. Luke 42078 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 You can use UNC paths or use directory paths along with the path substitution feature. Each of those setups will allow other devices to access the files directly. The former being a little quicker to setup, but the latter is preferable because the server will talk to the file system directly rather than going through the network interface. I understand you've been using it for over 2 years, but I am only commenting on what I see in the logs and what I see are some failures to access some of the network paths. It is always possible the problem will still persist after redoing setup with the directory paths, but it still gives us valuable information towards narrowing down the root cause.
Mustang Dave 5 Posted June 5, 2015 Author Posted June 5, 2015 I was editing the post when you replied, you never saw everything... It has been set this way for about 2+ years and multiple machines connect to it and multiple drives, why would it start now, I haven't changed the layout... And do you not suggest in the setup to use UNC paths? I have no issues accessing these drives from any other machine using mapped drives or using UNC paths if that helps. Even when these errors appear they do not stop the function of MBC in WMC. I only have the library issue like I said when music is selected and it is random and I looked through the logs and the drive that houses the music is not even showing. I ran a search of my old Server logs searching for "App: Error resolving path" and that error never started showing till 06/01/2015, 05/31/2015 and prior no errors (I have kept some hit and miss going back to April), I waited a while after the update to make sure everything else was working before I added back the music. Plus it just dawned on me and I double checked with my Wife because I commented to her that I added the music back into MBC. And I did not add it back in till Monday which was 06/01/2015 and then removed it on Wednesday because of the issue, then like I said above: my library may or may not show up after the library is scanned, when music is added. Sometimes it won't show unless I reboot EMBY Server and sometimes during the scan it will say an "Unexpected Error Occurred" and it will go on. Once again I removed the music and all works perfectly, even with the App: Error resolving path error showing in the log. I checked a recent log tonight and it still shows that error, but all is working... Is it possible some database has gotten corrupted? Summary all worked perfect with the update prior to me adding music and the logs showed no errors... I added music and I got "error processin your request..." on the web interface (still do, with music removed) and "App: Error resolving path" in the logs, but everything works and shows perfectly... See attached... Thanks again and sorry for being so long... 05-31-15.txt 06-01-15.txt
Luke 42078 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Well by the same token, why did i have hard drives fail earlier this year after 3 years of operation? Or a surround receiver suddenly not turn on? Because over time things happen. We suggest using either UNC or direct paths + path substitution. Normally UNC works for most users, but the direct path setup will make things easier on Emby Server. There is more evidence in your log that corroborates my theory about network problems. Notice the random failures to contact external services. App: Error getting response from http://thetvdb.com/api/Updates.php?type=all&time=1433000296 App: Error getting response from http://emby.media/community/index.php?/blog/rss/1-media-browser-developers-blog Error getting response from http://www.mb3admin.com/admin/service/MB3ServerNotifications.json So in my opinion there are some networking problems on your machine, and because your library is setup with network paths that is in turn preventing Emby Server from accessing those locations.
Mustang Dave 5 Posted June 5, 2015 Author Posted June 5, 2015 (edited) Well what would you like me to try first... My media systems use their own hardwired private giga-network separtated from all my other computers and access the internet on through wireless n 450 adapters, with separate IP ranges 10. vs 192.... I have checked my event log and the only issues relate to IPV6 which I dont use... For grin and giggles I switched from my 5ghz connection to 2.4ghz to see if that makes a difference, but I havent had any issues with this machine connecting or updating... I still say its ironic that I started getting this error the same day that I added the music back in and the library not showing... and it goes away when removed and these errors didnt exist till I added the music in... weird... but I am willing to try whatever you would like me to try... And just so you know I am a Network Admin and do Tech Support... ok... I have made the direct paths + path substitution... D:\My Videos 01\Animated Series 01\Animated Series \\MEDIA-CENTER\Media\My Videos 01\Animated Series 01\Animated Series D:\My Videos 01\Animated Shorts 01\Animated Shorts \\MEDIA-CENTER\Media\My Videos 01\Animated Shorts 01\Animated Shorts F:\My Videos 03\Animated Series 02\Animated Series \\\MEDIA-CENTER\Media3\My Videos 03\Animated Series 02\Animated Series... etc.... What type of path do you want me to use in Folders\Library section?? Edited June 5, 2015 by Mustang Dave
Mustang Dave 5 Posted June 5, 2015 Author Posted June 5, 2015 Which style do I need to use? D:\My Videos 01\Animated Series 01\Animated Series or \\MEDIA-CENTER\Media\My Videos 01\Animated Series 01\Animated Series in the Library section... Should have asked this last night about these errors: App: Error getting response from http://thetvdb.com/api/Updates.php?type=all&time=1433000296 App: Error getting response from http://emby.media/community/index.php?/blog/rss/1-media-browser-developers-blog Error getting response from http://www.mb3admin.com/admin/service/MB3ServerNotifications.jsn Do they run instantly when the computer wakes-up? If so then those errors could easily be caused by the lack of connection as the wireless internet connection is reconnected. As you know it takes 6-12 seconds for everything to reconnect... Anyway of putting a 30-45 second delay in? I can't hardwire the internet here... we had too many lightning strikes come through our phone line and we have DSL & AT&T denies there is an issue, even after 3 issues, so all computers are on wiresless internet.
ebr 16181 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 You need to change your media locations now to point to the drive references. Then the path substitution will take care of translating that to network paths for the apps that need it.
hifiaudio2 48 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Sorry to cut in, but Luke and Ebr, is the path method you are suggesting the best practice for everyone? I have been using UNC paths on my Emby server, as the data has been residing on the Synology and the server is a separate PC, but now I am moving both the Emby server and the data to a new Windows 2012 machine. So I should start using direct drive paths + UNC path substitution from now on?
Luke 42078 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 that is the best way yes, but if you're not having a problem there's probably no reason to change it
Mustang Dave 5 Posted June 5, 2015 Author Posted June 5, 2015 Checking before I do anything... I checked a fresh log (attacher) this morning for any "App: Error resolving path" errors and had none, but look at the attached, this is how I am currently setup... do I change or do I keep? @@ebr said "You need to change your media locations now to point to the drive references. Then the path substitution will take care of translating that to network paths for the apps that need it." but its working (no errors) ... Im not sure what should be done... F.Y.I.: Still have not added the music back in the Folder path yet, but its been added in the Path Substitution. @@Luke What did you make of this? Luke 42078 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 media folders should be setup using d:\ instead of the network paths
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 media folders should be setup using d:\ instead of the network paths It's an excellent idea in general but just be warned it may play merry hell with your collections!
Mustang Dave 5 Posted June 6, 2015 Author Posted June 6, 2015 It's an excellent idea in general but just be warned it may play merry hell with your collections! @@Luke ... @@ebr clarify please... Folder paths changed now... really need an edit function there... that would have made it so much easier... Going to try adding the music now...
Mustang Dave 5 Posted June 6, 2015 Author Posted June 6, 2015 Music added... 39129 new items have been added to your media library - 2hrs later... Scan Media Library 73.1 complete... will keep posted. After initial folder path change over scans were taking about a minute.
Mustang Dave 5 Posted June 6, 2015 Author Posted June 6, 2015 (edited) Scan finally done... 2 hours and 7 minutes... music is added... no library showing... all media folders setup using d:\ e:\ f:\ instead of the network paths... CPU stuck between 97-99... library finally showed when CPU dropped back to normal... wasn't sure how long it took, so I rescanned... second scan 1 minute and 45 seconds... library still not showing when completed... CPU still stuck betwen 97-99.. library finally showed... took 7 minutes... CPU doesn't spike till AFTER the library scan is complete, while scanning it is completely normal. Reboot Emby Server... scan under 2 minutes... 800+ more items added from music automatically... CPU normal during scan... library still not showing when completed... CPU still stuck betwen 97-99.. library finally showed... again taking taking about 7 minutes... Rebooted the Server a second time and had pretty much the same results scan under 2 minutes.. CPU normal during scan... library still not showing when completed... CPU still stuck betwen 97-99.. library finally showed... again taking taking about 7 minutes... But on the second reboot something dawned on me the spike DID NOT happen directly after the scan completed. It was happening only and only after I clicked on the MBC in the WMC or Home on the web client. The CPU would then spike between 97-99 for about 7 minutes then drop back down to 0 and the library would show and all would work perfectly. Now the odd thing is and this is the EXACT same issue that I was having a few months back, but when the music library is removed I do not have the CPU spike or the 7 minute lag... I just never realized it was only occuring when MBC opened or the Home button was clicked... MBC continues to work if I am in it while it is scanning, but if I come out... I can't go back in till the 7 minutes is up, but I did notice an error occured during the scan... Sorry for the zipped logs... for some reason they came out large... 1 music added.zip 2 rescan.zip 3 Server Reboot.zip 4 Server Reboot 2.txt 5 MBC-Opened While Scanning.zip Edited June 6, 2015 by Mustang Dave
Luke 42078 Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 are you using .lnk shortcuts throughout your library and perhaps expecting that the server will follow the links?
Mustang Dave 5 Posted June 7, 2015 Author Posted June 7, 2015 (edited) I have been in been in my boxset collections and from my 3D collections to their standard counterparts... have been for over a year with no problems... now after I changed all the paths from UNC its no longer working. My boxsets are now all empty and the 3Ds are missing in the Movie folders of their standard format, That I figured I would have to repoint them, all the shortcuts were using UNC instead of drive letters as well. I can correct that easy enough, unless their is another reason that I should not be doing that, I read about doing this in some other post here. Edited June 8, 2015 by Mustang Dave
Mustang Dave 5 Posted June 8, 2015 Author Posted June 8, 2015 (edited) I am trying the auto box set plugin now... it appears to be doing pretty much what I had created on my own... Just need to fix shortcuts from 3D to standard counterparts. When auto box is done, will let you know if that was for some reason causing the delay... I have already removed the refernce to my boxset collection... But are short-cuts now a bad thing? My only problem now is the 7 minute delay and the CPU spike when I click on MBC or Home in the web interface. But as I commented before and its the weird part is, it only does it when the music is added... Music not added... No delay... No Spike... and I have no plugins for Music For the record here is my structure if it makes a difference... C:\Users\Music\Genre\Artist\Album Edited June 8, 2015 by Mustang Dave
ebr 16181 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Shortcuts aren't necessarily a bad thing but they have to match exactly the way your library references are setup. So, when you changed how your library was referenced, all the shortcuts could no longer be matched up.
