fast playback with audio

hey guys,

 

does the android tv app support fast playback like the windows 8.1 app? Im thinking about getting an android media box and would like the ability to play back videos at 1, 1.5 and 2x speed with audio.

If not, any plans on implementing this?

 

Emby theatre doenst support it, but can do it with a workaround by using external players. apparently win 8.1 app can do it natively.

These are boxes designed for streaming so the native player does not have that type of feature.  I'm not really sure how you would accomplish that reliably with a streaming source.

 

You can skip forward and back or go directly to chapter points.

thanks for the reply ebr, I have come across a couple of players on the itunes store that can control playback speed even though the videos are streamed over dlna. (unfortulately they arent available on android)

 

I have noticed some 3rd party players on android supposedly have that playback feature (i dont have an android device to test yet). does the android emby app support external player config like emby theatre does?

External players are not supported yet.

 

What are you really trying to accomplish?  Why do you need fast playback?

Primarly used for watching tv shows that have really slow talking speed, or that are slow to build up. Or things like documentaries, or lectures, learning material, presentations that can go on for hours and can be skimmed with fast playback to get all the main points. huge timesaver. for example. watching a recorded presentation that is 3hrs long, but can be watched in 1.5 or 2hrs by fast playback. (obviously audio would remain at the same pitch and not chimpmunked.).

 

if it cant be implemented in the native player, maybe external players might be easier to implement just like the emby windows client, or kodi for example.

 

When a certain video is played, you can chose to play it with an external player which pops up, plays the video and closes back into the emby app.
