Video Backdrops now supported in Kodi

Hi All,

Some of you may recall in the older addon we had support for Video Backdrops, as we switched to the new Emby addon this functionality was lost. I have been chatting with the author of the TVTunes addon for Kodi and persuaded him to add support for video backdrops.

He has done this now but could do with more testing/feedback on it.

For anyone interested can you go to this thread: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=214287&pid=2020258#pid2020258 and install the version he links (4.7.2d)

If your video backdrops are stored in a backdrops folder (default for Emby) you will need to add this folder to the settings:

Do please provide feedback as it 1) encourages the developer to continue 2) helps iron out any bugs there may be in there since it is new functionality.

Note - this is currently only supported for users that have set the Emby addon to use direct paths.

I've only been able to get this to play the first Video Backdrop, but it does not switch to the next video as I move through my list.  It will play the first video and stop.  I have to restart Kodi on my AFTV to get it to play again.  If I change the TVTunes configuration to not use sub-directories, theme.mp3 works as expected.  Any ideas?

Does anyone have a video of this in action?

Although quite old you can get an idea of it in this video

Just to confirm, video backdrops support requires the tvtunes add-on to work with the emby for kodi add-on?

Great news this feature is now fully supported with the latest emby version (1.0.12) without the need to enable direct paths or even set the custom path in tvtunes! Simply go to the emby addon and press "sync emby theme media to kodi" and that's it! So you can now use both CinemaMode and Theme Music together.

Got his up and working, love it!

Is there any way to not display the playback location and timeline bar? Admit it's not a biggie, just a little distracting and clutters up the view imo.

P.S. Great work on this addon, I have been able to move away from WMC for the most part.

You could try syncing using direct streaming instead. It plays via Emby instead and will be named theme or something similar. It should load just as quick. Might be something to try.

Oops! Well I didn't notice that when I was browsing. There is a way to not show the now playing info when theme media is active..maybe I did that in 1080xf instead! I'll have a look :)

By the way this is not happing while browsing naturally.

If you hit the <tab> to see full screen version of the theme while browsing and hit back to <tab> to go back library view than it shows the info.

Just so im sure, the tvtunes addon doesnt download any tunes, it only plays content that i have on my server?

Yes if you do the import from the emby addon all it does is place placeholders to the theme files you have in emby. So if you have multiple clients do not worry that the actual theme files are being imported, it's only the path to the file.

Awesome, just installed @@radeon's theme videos and songs plugins from the catalog. He seems to have a deal on at the minute for all four for £5. I cant work out how to see how many have been downloaded from within Emby Dashboard but i just did a search on my media in win explorer and it looks to have downloaded 1022 themes and its not even half way!

Great work everyone!

Question:

How does one go about getting video themes up and playing?

I have Raedon's Video Themes installed and it has downloaded many themes to the moviename/backdrop directories.

I have TV Tunes that I installed from the addons section. (do I need different/special addon)

I have Emby for Kodi v 1.0.13

and Arctic:Zephyr 1.0.55

Have you imported them from the Emby addon?

Then, all you need to do is just Launch Emby for Kodi, and select Sync Theme Media to Kodi (last one in the list). That's it! :)

Ok, got them to play.... music/audio only? No video backdrop?

Also, I think it was already reported that current theme playing continues to play even as you move on through movie list.

Again, do we need TVthemes addon mentioned in post a few up, or will addon from Kodi addons list work?

You need TV Tunes installed. Both music and video theme are supported. The way it is currently it will sync your video backdrop over theme music, if no video backdrop is found for the content, then it will sync theme music for it.

As for the video backdrop keeping playing, it's been reported in the TV Tunes thread: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=214287&page=14

Edit: If you didn't have TV tunes installed at first, when you synced the theme media, then just resync your theme media and it should work fine.

Ah ... you also need to have Show Now Playing Video In Background checkmarked in skin settings (as to why I was not seeing video)...

Thanks, I believe I have it sorted out for the moment and will await updates to fix anomolies in TV Tunes
