hey guys,

i am installing a patio outside and i have an old pair of outdoor speakers i am looking to leverage. i'd like to be able to use them with bluetooth but i am missing one piece of the puzzle - i will buy a bluetooth receiver but i need a way to connect that receiver (with RCA outputs or 3.5mm headphone out) to my speaker wires. is there an easy way to do this? i have read some contradicting things on the web so i'm hoping someone who has a working setup similar to this can provide some insight. thanks!

You will need some kind of amplifier

There are RF adapters for speakers as well but I've been really unhappy with the audio quality of the ones I tried.  Currently living without rear speakers until I solve the wiring\wireless challence in the family room.

Would still require an amplifier tho

@@tp546 thats a noise eliminator usually for automotive. That won't boost output watts.

You want something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Audio-Receiver-Amplifier-Model/dp/B00JB4YWGO

Bluetooth + Amp in one, and has normal pinch style connectors for bare wires on the back.

Awesome, thanks so much for the help. Not sure the price is worth what I want to do, but I'll think about it. I think I would need to take it outside and connect it everytime I want to use it too, right? Or do you think maybe I could put it in a ziploc bag and bury it under some dirt or under my patio?

Being it is an amplifier, it will boost sound with a certain efficiency. This will not be 100%. The unused power is what creates heat. As more heat is created, the efficiency drops. This can happen quickly. Then the efficiency becomes so low the circuitry is desroyed by becoming too hot. So its best to leave it in a well ventilated area, with the best cooling potential as possible.

In a bag, or Tupperware container, or otherwise you are going to have to supply some way to ventilate the hot air, and supply colder air to its confined space.

Generally no, they are powered.

You can mount it under your eaves if you have relatively mild weather. You can buy weather boxes at the home improvement store in the landscape irrigation section. They are meant for timers and such but would work for that as well.

okay i just found what i think is a flaw in my setup when looking at the larger picture. what has been described so far will work for music from my phone, etc. but one of the things i really want to do is use my tv with the speakers. i have this that i bought from amazon to send the audio out from my tv:

http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B004B8GF7Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

however, since i would be connecting that to the item @@speechles described (http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Audio-Receiver-Amplifier-Model/dp/B00JB4YWGO) and neither one has any kind of interface, i don't think i would have any way to pair them, would i?

I have a karaoke system without an interface. Well actually the interface is a series of blinking LEDs to connect to Bluetooth. This is probably the same. See if you can find the manuals online in PDF format and read through them.

actually yeah i think it would work based on what the info for the transmitter i have says

Just be aware Bluetooth usually introduces an audio delay

I have an older version of the Logitech adapter and using it with this. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0073WTG6M?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

You could go a little cheaper if you did't want the extra's and get http://www.amazon.com/Lepai-LP-2020A-Tripath-Class-T-Amplifier/dp/B0049P6OTI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1432825324&sr=1-1

Either one of those plus the adapter is cheaper then the bluetooth receiver you were looking at plus you control the volume from the amp as well.

I don't see why they wouldn't work with your device hooked up to your tv.

My speakers are 100 watts and 8 ohms - would that be powerful enough?
