ServerWMC crashes after a few minutes

I'm using the latest stable version of everything. While playing recorded shows, through a web interface, I get a crash after a few minutes. This has happened repeatedly. Interestingly, after these crashes, I can't even connect to the server with Teamviewer and I am forced to reboot.

I am attaching a log file. Any ideas?

Thanks, Richard

If serverwmc is what's crashing, as your subject heading says, can you also post the serverwmc log after the crash?  You can find it in:

%programdata%\vdsoftware\serverwmc

Sure. Here it is.

Unfortunately the log you posted doesn't show anything.  Is it really serverwmc that is crashing?  If so, is there an error message it displays or does it just stop running?

This might be an issue of semantics: is serverwmc crashing; or, is serverwmc causing Emby or Chrome to crash? Regardless, I never have crashes with Emby or Chrome, until I play a recording via serverwmc. I just tried again. The Emby server, serverwmc, WMC itself, and the Ceton are on the DVR computer. From a different computer, I logged into Emby with chrome, clicked on Live TV and played a recording. I skipped around a bit, and then while playing it just froze. I get a flashing sign on Chrome that says: "There was an error processing the request. Please try again later." Nothing pops up on the DVR computer. It's just a blank desktop. I usually use Teamviewer to log onto the DVR computer, but when this happens, Teamviewer is locked out.

Let me know if you need any additional information.

Thanks, Richard

When emby plays a recorded tv file, all serverwmc does is give emby the file path to the wtv file and emby opens the file and plays it - so I doubt that serverwmc is causing the crash (I am frequently wrong though).  As an experiment, temporally try adding the recorded tv folder directory to emby and then play the files from there, does it crash then?  This takes serverwmc out of the equation entirely.

Yes. It does crash. And this is on another client computer. Any suggestions of what I should do next?

I think you should file a bug report for emby, saying that it crashes when playing your wtv files (taking live-tv out of the picture to keep it simple).

I too have been having issues with server wmc. I've attached my error logs from just this morning. I have at least one from each day for the last week. This was the time that I noticed Microsoft had stopped supporting wmc (specifically the guide data fro live tv). Without the guide data, I was not going to be able to record any tv. Since I can watch recorded shows, but not record through wmc, I thought I would record them on Emby and watch them through wmc. But when I went to the Emby dashboard, I had no channels available. It still showed my tuners were there and server wmc was running, but I couldn't watch live tv. Over the past week, I've been trying to figure out why that is. The last thing I did was open the server wmc client and saw that all my channels were being blocked by wmc (I'm using port 9080, and it is open). So I rebooted the computer and my channels came back. Then in less than a minute, the channels disappeared. Then less than a minute after that, server wmc crashed and could not be restarted. Did this a couple times this morning, but the results were the same.

And now that I've written all that, server wmc has started back up all by itself and I have channels again. But still no guide data. Does the guide data come from wmc directly? So that if Microsoft is no longer providing guide data to wmc, then Emby won't be able to get it from server wmc? Do I need to install a different live TV service?

Just to be clear, Serverwmc won't work if wmc is not working.

Micosoft is still providing guide data to wmc (and therefore serverwmc).  But they recently switched the guide data source to a new company (instead of zapit its now Rovi) and some users are finding that they need to redo the tv setup in wmc to get it to work with the new data source.  So check out wmc and if you aren't getting guide data there, redo the wmc tv setup.

Thank you krustyreturns. That is what I suspected, but I admit that I am still learning how all of this works. The reason I asked is that I've done the wmc updates and rerun setup as the posted threads suggest, and still nothing. At least now I know this isn't an Emby issue and I need to start working this from the Microsoft side.
