Studded 0 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 I've just installed Kodi on my Minix X8 Android media player to view my movies, TV Series, docos etc stored on my NAS server. I organize my NAS server from my Windows PC, the server is just another folder on the PC.There are thousands of files on the NAS server and TV Shows are stored as "S01E01 TV Show Name.mkv" and movies are stored as "All the Presidents Men.mkv" etc. What I want to do is extract info from IMDB etc such as description of the show, cast, run time, rating and maybe a poster and/or photos.I described my needs on another forum and was told that Emby may be a good fit for me. I need something that is very easy to use and doesn't require me to be a whiz programmer. The program needs to be able to easily update the data base with new movies or TV shows as I am continually updating. I don't need the program to download and add movies/tv episodes etc as I do that and I add/modify .sub files where needed. But I need the program to automatically get details from IMDB etc.I also need to be able to add other folders to the data base such as Gardening, Trading, Health etc which contain videos which need no info from the internet but will need me to supply a description etc.Does Emby seem like a good fit for me or should I be chasing elsewhere?
ebr 16185 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Yes, Emby should do everything you need. With the caveat of some sort of predictable file structure. When you say your TV is named like that does that mean all those different series are dumped in a single folder or do you at least have episodes for the same series stored under folders for each series? That is what will be required for us to be able to identify them and gather metadata. As long as you can conform to some simple organization conventions, Emby will serve you well. 1
andrewbee 15 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 From the description of your needs, certainly and it does all that easily. If you manage your library, their naming and folder structure then you make it even easier for the server to pull metadata from online sources. I'm also quite new to Emby and I chose to give it a try because of similar goals. Without a doubt, there is a learning curve involved but you can get it to work for you. Because the speed of development across all platforms differs and the rate of improvements going through the server pipeline is considerably fast, you have to really think of the overall product/service to be in its Beta stage. This doesnt mean that the system is broken or riddled with bugs, I think choosing the right server platform really helps reduce the troubleshooting issues and from my experience so far, Windows is the most stable server platform.(I havent tried any of the linux flavours). You might also want to stick with only stable releases for now to see how you get on. Allot of work has gone into the client and server interface, and this in my opinion is one of its greatest strengths. Its quite easy to work out what does what. If you have ever messed with a typical web db platform like Wordpress, you will feel right at home. The community is certainly comprised of people with more technical backgrounds but the administrators and moderators are constantly helping with issues on a daily basis. Once you know how to report a problem, give it 48hrs (most times, it gets attended to within 24hrs). Give it a go and see how you get on. I do plan create some sort of guide or helpful tips at some point for NOOBS (such as myself) because it can be quite intimidating and/or frustrating when you go in blind.
Studded 0 Posted May 12, 2015 Author Posted May 12, 2015 Thanks ebr & andrewbee. Yes TV series are stored as: Elementary/Elementary Season 1/S01E01 Elementary.mkv Elementary/Elementary Season 1/S01E02 Elementary.mkv etc Elementary/Elementary Season 2/S02E01 Elementary.mkv etc Is there a progran for doing bulk sorting and renaming? I've looked around but can't find a good description of how Emby works. Does it run all the time or do you run it when you have made additions to the data base and you need it to extract info from IMDB etc?
bluemonkey07 590 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 (edited) Ideally it needs to run all the time that your clients are accessing the media. that file structure should work fine.... But if you need to do some bulk sorting/renaming I can recommend filebot Edited May 12, 2015 by Vidman
AgileHumor 123 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Is there a progran for doing bulk sorting and renaming? Filebot and some auto organize (Emby or Media Center Master) to sort into proper seasons
ebr 16185 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Thanks ebr & andrewbee. Yes TV series are stored as: Elementary/Elementary Season 1/S01E01 Elementary.mkv Elementary/Elementary Season 1/S01E02 Elementary.mkv etc Elementary/Elementary Season 2/S02E01 Elementary.mkv etc Actually, I'm not positive if the series name in the season folder will be a problem or not. We are typically looking for just "Season 01".
FrostByte 5392 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Here are the recommended file structures for Emby in case yours doesn't work http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/674-media-files-folders-structure/
