cant play mp4 in window 8 app

hello, i just got a surface 3 tablet and went ahead and bought media browser from the app store, but i cant get any of my mp4s to run on the app.

they will run on VLC app and they will run if i go thru the network and play them thru any normal player but nothing works with media browser app 

 

i love the ui for the windows 8.1 app but at this stage i cant use it

Update,  so it turns out that Win7DSFilterTweaker helped me with sorting out the problem i was having.

When i tried to play a show or movie it would come up a failed to play after a lot of stuffing around trying a few things on the forum page that had the filter

tweaker, i looked in to media foundations and found out that all the common media file extensions were set to disable on my surface 3 and that was why i couldn't play any media from my server.

so after that i have had no troubles at all with media broswer app.

Thanks for putting a post about the windows filter tweaker because i don't think i could have solved that problem without it.
