dkindig 1 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 (edited) I ran into an interesting metadata issue and I'm looking for a possible alternative to locking my Series at the Season level and manually configuring the entire season's episodes. I have ripped the Firefly series which consists of only one season containing 14 episodes. My problem is with metadata retrieval of the episode data. Emby only has a single designation for the metadata source at that level: TheTVDB. However, that source lists the episodes in the order that FOX aired them, not the order that Joss Whedon intended them to be viewed. I have my episodes named in the format "SxxExx Episode Name.mkv" and of course the episodes are coming up with the wrong titles, descriptions and artwork because I have them named in the order that the series DVD's ship in rather than in broadcast order. TheMovieDB lists the episodes in the correct order but there's no way to tell Emby to prefer TheMovieDB instead of TheTVDB at the episode level. Is there some trick anyone could recommend that might help, or should I just manually build the metadata for this particular series? Thanks in advance for your help! Edited May 8, 2015 by dkindig
Luke 42083 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Yea alternative ordering is something we'd like to do but haven't gotten to yet. so i guess you'll have to handle that series manually.
eskay993 12 Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Is there somewhere we can vote for this feature to be added? I would vote 100x if I could Looking at passed threads, it seems to be on the todo list for a while (since 2013) and wondering if there is someway we can bump it up in propriety. Doing it manually it not really an option for many shows (way too many changes). And many shows don't make sense in air date order, which is why they were changed for the DVD releases. I've been on the fence about Emby for many months and the amazing progress with the new Kodi addon has tipped me over, but this is a deal breaker for me. Thanks as always.
eskay993 12 Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 (edited) I know this is an old thread, but I found a workaround that works really well and is miles better than manually editing. Takes a few steps though and is only really useful if you have shows that have ended (would be a pain to do this with on-going shows every time) This is assuming your files are named correctly for DVD order. 1. Move the shows you want to set to DVD order to a temp folder somewhere 3. Scan your library so that it removes these shows from the database (or just manually remove them) 4. Download and install tinyMediaManager 5. I won't go into details of how to use it, but basically point it to search for media in your temp folder 6. In settings, set it to DVD order 7. Start a scrape and it will create NFOs for you next to the video files, with DVD orders set. 8. Move the show folders back to your Emby shows folder and rescan. It will now read the metadata from the NFOs and set everything correctly. You can do this with any program that can scrape and create NFOs (MediaElch, FileBot, even Kodi itself if you export your data). Hope that helps someone somewhere! Saved me a lot of time with shows like Batman The Animated Series that have a completely different DVD order. Cheers Edited November 13, 2015 by eskay993
