podrae 3 Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Hi Guys My sister has a chromecast and uses my emby server remotely. She uses the webpage and casts from there taking up 70% of the server cpu transcoding. What is the best way to use the chromecast without the need for transcoding? Im guessing if you did it from and android or IOS phone it would be ok. What about emby theater?
AdrianW 1058 Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 You don't actually stream to Chromecast - the Chromecast takes over the stream. You could actually turn off the originating app or browser and the chromecast would continue to stream. According to this page you'd probably be best ensuring your content is H.264 and AAC in an MP4 container.
podrae 3 Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 (edited) Ok thats cool so that means that it will need to transcode for this no matter what? ignore that I just checked your link Edited May 4, 2015 by podrae
Luke 42080 Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 It will only transcode when the chromecast doesn't natively support the content, or depending on your chromecast bitrate setting
dragon2611 29 Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 If you don't mind the extra storage usage, I believe the sync folder plugin could be used to pre-transcode the content to a format the chromecast can play. You can then limit the offline transcode to a single core/low priority or I think schedule it for a quiet period e.g overnight 1
