Beta Updates and the User Tour

Do we really need to see the User Tour after every beta update? I think once is enough. The notification to the Release Announcement should give any new information needed.

Perhaps the ability to dismiss it without actually "starting" the tour would be helpful.

I would like this for release versions too, my users only ever see client ui so it's only me that will ever see the "tour" anyway.

It only re-presents itself when something has changed so it is probably best to go through it again whenever it is available.

Any chance then that for new installs it shows the entire tour but if it's an upgrade it only shows the new stuff? I am sure that after some time more and more people will just skip it if they see it starting from the beginning after every update.

 

Of course new users still need the complete tour to learn about configuring stuff.

If you volunteered to create all the specific tours that would be necessary for that to happen I'm sure Luke will consider it .

Well, Luke didn't use the last 3-4 things I contributed so I don't think he likes what I do

 

I don't think it's actually a large task. It sort of depends if the server knows it was an upgrade or not, and if so what version. The only real update for the tour would be marking the first version number each page of the tour is related to. Then it would be a matter of displaying all those with a version number above the old server versions number.

Which one of the bug fixes mentioned required the tour with 3.0.5588.0?

Version 3.0.5582 had a bunch of things but not the version released yesterday.

 

Even so, a way to opt out of it completely would be nice. Just annoying because every update I have to log in with all eight users and dismiss the tour for them.
