whitman27 1 Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Hi guys, I just finished building my server and have that up and running and also just built a new HTPC to go with the big TV. I have always used a Logitech wireless keyboard with my old setup but I remember someone saying that Theatre had been designed for use with a remote. Wondering what everyone is using to help me make my decision. Cheers Whit Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
elshagon 44 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 I use the Logitech Harmony One. Works great as I use it to control everything on my HTPC including Emby Theater. I have a post on here somewhere outlining how I programmed the remote to work with the PC and Emby.
jasonmcroy 316 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 I have the Flirc usb device connected to my HTPC so that I can use any remote by setting up Keyboard shortcut commands via the Flirc. I am currently using a Harmony 850 remote as I can also use it to control my Home Theater receiver's volume and on/off for the TV. Works great with Emby Theater for me. -Jason
Xzener 729 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 I have a Harmony 700, and an old chewed up 550.
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 I use a tivo slide remote. I like that it has a full keyboard under the normal remote control panel.
gator99 5 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 I use iRule, the ability for feedback is great. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

ABNParatrooper 6 Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 I just looked at the price of the Harmony One, 299, yikes. I did see the 650. Anyone using the 650 and able to do ALL that is needed? I guess the better question, does the 650 have the same layout as the One
Jack Burton 98 Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 I just looked at the price of the Harmony One, 299, yikes. I did see the 650. Anyone using the 650 and able to do ALL that is needed? I guess the better question, does the 650 have the same layout as the One I use the 650 and it does what I need it to. Not sure about the layout or "ALL" that is needed, I think Theatre is pretty limited in that way currently. For example, and I may be wrong, but I don't think Theatre has an option for info while media is playing (unless the keyboard key isn't "i" like usual) so the info button does nothing. My 650 controls my theatre system, so volume on the receiver, tv on/off, etc. It launches Emby Theatre, allows full control with the arrow keys, and play/pause/stop/skip/back all work. Not sure about recording since I don't use it for live tv, but I expect that probably works too. I can't think of anything I'd like it to do that it can't do, unless limited my Emby Theatre itself. Hope that helps!
pir8radio 1312 Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 I like the harmony hub you can use hardware harmony remotes or the phone apps... If you don't want to spend a bunch of dough you can get something like this, ditch the cheap remote and use whatever universal remote you want... http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-PC-Laptop-IR-Remote-Control-Controller-Receiver-/191818354743?hash=item2ca943d037:g:6wQAAOSwwpdW19I9

I use mouse an keyboard, mostly though. One question for you, pir8. Will the hub send command signals via Bluetooth? I actually hoped that it would control via network, but it doesn't

ABNParatrooper 6 Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 I maybe the few or only person here, all I have is a laptop connected to my TV via HDMI. I also have a Roku3. I say that to say, or ask rather, the remotes should still work on the laptop correct? Yeah I know you all swagging 3 and 4 thousand dollar rigs in here, lol. One day young Jedis, I too shall expensive rig have, lol.

Thanks for that. I'd actually forgotten I had set it up already. I stopped using it because the app is terrible. I don't have a remote. Do you have a remote, and does it work well? I keep meaning to go get one, but I like using a trackball and keyboard.
Guest asrequested Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Something to consider now, is that CEC is enabled. Anyone try using they're tv remote, yet?

I was looking at that in the store, but I don't need the added functionality that it provides. I us Amazon Echo to turn everything on and off. My receiver is a Pioneer Elite, which comes with a great app (needed for what it can do) and it's network controlled, which I hoped the harmony hub would utilize. But I might buy the basic remote, just for the simple things and guests.
Dazik 46 Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 IOGEAR Multimedia Keyboard with Laser Trackball and Scroll Wheel Gave up on trying to use remotes quite a bit back. It's just easier for YouTube and such.
ABNParatrooper 6 Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 @, that is good, but how does it handle functions like fast forward, rewind etc? I am assuming that you have to use the cursor to drag the progress or make calculated clicks on the progress bar to find where you want to end up.
Guest asrequested Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 (edited) IOGEAR Multimedia Keyboard with Laser Trackball and Scroll Wheel Gave up on trying to use remotes quite a bit back. It's just easier for YouTube and such. I used to use one of those. One big problem they have is the bearings for the trackball are plastic, and they wear down pretty quickly. I switched to using this https://www.amazon.com/Adesso-Wireless-Keyboard-Trackball-WKB-3000U/dp/B006H4Y70W/ref=sr_1_10?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1469148520&sr=1-10&keywords=adesso+keyboard It has steel bearings. It would appear they don't make them, anymore, so if you want a multimedia keyboard, this one is also an option https://www.amazon.com/SIIG-Wireless-Multimedia-Trackball-JK-WR0412-S1/dp/B003Y4B4H2/ref=pd_sim_147_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=41u9AGbBO3L&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL320_SR320%2C320_&psc=1&refRID=Q9JPW8BDCPG0RJQXRRHX Edited July 22, 2016 by Doofus
ABNParatrooper 6 Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 But well do these trackball keyboards handle the other functions like fast forward and rewind etc? What about things like the * that when pressed will bring up options?
