kornster 5 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Hi All, Just wondering if its possible to transcode everything that streams from Emby Server. I have a WD Live TV that connects primarily to the media server part of Emby, not the UNC Shares. I`m having issues with MP4`s and the audio skipping every 7 - 8 seconds but the video works fine. I`ve done quite a bit of googling and the general response seems to be its the way the MP4 was encoded and the way the WD Live handles the MP4. On my Surface RT App or Windows Phone app i dont have the issue with everything which im off the opinion is due to the fact that Emby server is transcoding the files before it streams to my phone/tablet. This is also noticable with Dragonball Z which is a .wmv file which the WD Live cannot play but my Windows phone has no issue`s playing it. Can someone offer some assistance. I thought it may have been the WD Live but this is the 3rd one i will have replaced and am not keen on spending another $100 on another. I`d thought about buying a little Intel Nuc and building that with Emby Theatre on top of 8.1 but well i like the low power usage of the WD Live and that its not really on all the time and can boot up quite quick whereas 8.1 i would be waiting for the OS to load which i could get around but removing and disabling all the stuff not relevant to it s purpose. Anyway im waffling on.....i`ll leave it at that Kornster
Happy2Play 9782 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Just wondering if its possible to transcode everything that streams from Emby Server. Have you looked at your log to ensure the WDTV Live profile is being used? If you go to DLNA-Profiles-select the WDTV Live profile-Direct Play and remove those options and hit save this will create a custom profile for that device.

I found the WDLIVE in DNLA ( had no idea that existed). Are you saying to remove all the Container: Video Settings from DirectPlay? or just the MP4 one? Regards

But if you are only having issues with one container then I would just remove the one. It is more of a trial and error with your system. Note there are system and custom profiles. Once you modify a system profile is copies itself to custom once you make a change and hit save. Then make any additional changes to the custom profile. Might want to customized the name of the profile so you can see in the log that the proper one is being used also.

Thanks mate, I`ll give it a go tonight but this looks exactly what i need to start figuring out the issue. Regards
kornster 5 Posted June 2, 2015 Author Posted June 2, 2015 Hi Guys, Im reviving this old topic as this is still an issue. I know ive answered it but the problem has re-surfaced and cannot for the life of me figure it out. So the WD Live TV skips audio at randm intervals still. Video works fine but its just the audio skipping for maybe a second. It`s been working ok but last night we watched The Flash and Daredevil (MP4) and both did the skip. Other formats dont do this and it seems to only be MP4 formats. On the TV when i start a show it shows a box in the corner with Video-MP4 Audio-AAC as the file and audio type. Within the profile on DLNA in Emby i dont see AAC as an audio source if that makes sense. Its gotten to the point now that we just use my SurfaceRT with the EmbyRT App and stream via Micro HDMI to HDMI but this isnt pratical as we need to get up everytime to start / stop and play a new file type. Anyone have an ideas. I originally thought it was the WD Live TV but im not convinced as other non MP4 file types work without a problem so the device works without an issue. I dont think its the server either. Dual Core / 4 GIG RAM /Gigabit Ethernet, seems more than enough to transcode and play files. Regards
Luke 42080 Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Is it direct playing or transcoding when this happens?
kornster 5 Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 Is it direct playing or transcoding when this happens? Hi Luke, Im not sure how to determine this. Is there something in the Emby Configurator that will show me?
Luke 42080 Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 you can look in the server dashboard during playback. if it doesn't show up, you can check the log folder for a transcoding log.

kornster 5 Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 Morning Luke, My wife and i had a look at the dashboard last night while streaming the same Episode of DareDevil that was playing up and the dashboard says "Direct Streaming" I`ve uploaded the 2 screenshots to my OneDrive account if that helps. https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=fe4ebce3530a4fb9!123564&authkey=!ANUxXbSwK-6SJ5o&ithint=folder%2cpng Regards
