howarda401 0 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I am currently running Emby Version 3.0.5572.0. I have been trying to stream live tv to a roku 3 device through the Nextpvr plugin ver 3.0.5569.35335. I have a Hauppauge WinTV HVR 1950. When ever I attempt to stream live tv it looks as if it is starting. The bar on the screen fills about a third of the way then it stops and goes back to last screen where you selected the channel to play the show. I can stream live tv on the Http version on the PC. It only refuses to play on the Roku 3. It will play any recorded programs. I tried numerous decoders. I even set up the live tv on another more powerful computer. It worked once then stopped working again with the same problem. Here are the decoders I am using currently. Everything works fine on the PC. Here is the log from Emby. MediaBrowser Transcode.txt I'd appreciate any suggestions as I have been fussing with this for several months now. At this point I am completely stumped. Thanks
Luke 42079 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 it looks like maybe ffmpeg thinks it has reached the end of the stream. Sven could try setting ReadInputAtNativeFramerate on the MediaSource
Sven 136 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 (edited) it looks like maybe ffmpeg thinks it has reached the end of the stream. Sven could try setting ReadInputAtNativeFramerate on the MediaSource I try to do it this evening... BTW: @@Luke true or false? Edited April 7, 2015 by Sven
howarda401 0 Posted April 7, 2015 Author Posted April 7, 2015 Hi Swen; Is there something I need to do for you to make this change.
tphillip1120 2 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I am having the same exact issue with the same version of Embry where Live Tv appears to start buffering and then stops when playing through my Roku 3. Everything worked fine before the update to Embry Server 3.0.5572.0. I don't know if this is related, but I am also experiencing buffering issues when playing movies through my Roku 3. The move plays for awhile and then stops to buffer again. Thje buffering sometimes takes 5 minutes before the movie starts playing again. This has to be related to the newest server build since I am running Embry with a 50/50 Fiber connection.
howarda401 0 Posted April 7, 2015 Author Posted April 7, 2015 I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the Roku will only play MP4 and most capture cards are MP2. HD Video is very high def. The Coversion must be a real work load for the computer. This has been going on with me since before the latest update.
howarda401 0 Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 tphillip. What is the format of you movies. I had to convert my movie collection to MP4 with handbrake. If if is not a mp4 file it has to be transcoded on the fly by the media server. Half the time it won't play at all.
howarda401 0 Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 (edited) I have found a sort of fix for this problem. There are two versions of media browser on the roku channel. The newer one is listed as MediaBrowser. There is a older one called MediaBrowser for Roku which is version 1.17.6. In this version when you go to a currently running show you get the options to record or play. Click on Record first then play. For some reason it will then stream live tv. I have discovered that this is a hit or miss solution. Somtimes it works sometimes it dosn't. At least this has worked for me. Hopefully a future upgrade will have this working better. tphillip1120 2 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 My movies are a mix of mp4 and avi. When I first installed the latest version of Emby, I enabled DLNA Play To. I have since disabled that option and also changed the settings in Playback/Transcoding to auto from Higher Quality. This has helped with some of the streaming issues. I was able to stream one movie last night without the buffering issue and stream another movie that played for awhile, stopped and re-buffered 3 times, then eventually just stopped and kicked me back to the menu. After hitting play again, the movie then streamed until the end of the movie without buffering. The movie that streamed fine from start to finish was at a resolution 640 X 344 and was an avi file. The second movie that experienced the buffering issues was also an avi file with a resolution of 640 X 272. Neither of these were super high resolution videos. I will try playing a few mp4 files this weekend to see what happens.
howarda401 0 Posted April 10, 2015 Author Posted April 10, 2015 When I first got my roku I bit the bullet and converted all my video files to MP4 using handbrake. I had a couple of thousand video files and it took a long time. Worth it at the end. I do not have any problems with video streaming. Except of course live tv
howarda401 0 Posted April 11, 2015 Author Posted April 11, 2015 I've installed the New 1.96 version of the Roku channel. If you attempt live tv nothing has changed. If you attempt to watch live TV the bar will fill about a third of the way and the go back to the previous screen. Also if you attempt to record a show the Roku channel will crash and you will go back to the Roku's home screen. With the old version 1.17.6 you also can not watch live TV, but the record function seems to work fine. You have to wait for the video to finish recording before you can watch it however.
Luke 42079 Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 watching live tv is working great on 1.96. I'll check into the record button.
howarda401 0 Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 I'm afraid it is not working on my roku. It could be that my computer simply is not powerfull enough for the live stream to the roku. For anyone else in the same situation. I am still using version 1.17.6 for recording. I have set up a program called MCEBuddy to monitor the folder that live programs are recorded to. It will then automatically convert them to MP4 and locate them in another folder. I have set up a media folder in mediabrowser called Live TV converted To MP4 which will show any programs ready to be viewed. This solution is far from ideal. It means you can not watch a live tv program until a couple of hours after the program is over. It is also seems to be a lot of work for my medaserver to run MCEBuddy to convert the file. I don't know if my server can handle the conversions as well as demands from anyone in the house watching shows on mediabrowser. If you have to you can set MCEBuddy to only transcode at certain times of the night when no one is using the server however that leads to more delays for watching your show. I guess these are the disadvantages of running a mediaserver on a strict budget.
Luke 42079 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 there is a fix coming for the next pvr plugin that hasn't been posted yet
howarda401 0 Posted August 4, 2015 Author Posted August 4, 2015 I have finally worked out a solution. Although it is not a good one. Emby will not play either live TV or play recorded video from my live TV stream without being covered to MP4 using handbrake beforehand. Plex will play my recorded video but does not work with NextPVR very well. The solution: I use the NextPVR plugin in Emby to record the show and when I want to watch it I have to switch over to Plex. It is frustrating to have to switch back and forth between the two pieces of software. The problem seems to be that Emby cannot convert the MP2 video recorded by the tuner card fast enough for the Roku which will only play MP4. The wait symbol will come up for a couple of minutes and then it will say the video is not available and to see if the server is down.
