I utilize the Web Client in Firefox, Windows 7 Ultimate.

OK, still trying to figure out this path substition thing.  I am trying to minimize how much media is being transcoded by my server and direct play (as VLC would) everything to the client (all windows 7 PCs).  I've got my media in my library pointed to mapped drives (drive letters) but also have the path substition section added with the actual server locations for each mapped drive. 99% of my media is in .mkv container

EX:  under Library Tab, I have 3D Movies pointed at R:\Other Video\3D Movies.  Under Path Substitution Tab I have it listed FROM R:\Other Video\3D Movies going TO \\MediaServerPC\Misc\Other Video\3D Movies

I've even tried pointing it directly to \\MediaServerPC\Misc\Other Video\3D Movies directly under the Library Tab

Still all movies are transcoding

Am I doing somethign wrong?  Is it a limitation of the web client?  Am I missing a step/procedure/setting?

Thanks.

Actually I think you are adding steps... Just enter the network share as your library location... No need to map drives / path substitution

Well the problem here being that there is no way a browser can access the underlying network such as \\server\share, and therefore there will always be some sort of transcoding/streamcopy etc going on.

And browsers support very limited sets of file types and codecs so there will likely be even more transcoding required unless you're using an external player.
