hansolo77 11 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 (edited) I've donated a few times, and bought various plugins. Now I see that the latest version of the client is on the Windows store at a cost of $4.99. Does this mean that future development and releases will be based on income? If so, I'm afraid I'm gonna bail out and seek an alternative solution. I don't understand why a program that is developed using Open Source is now going to be a premium purchase-only solution. That's not cool. Edited April 2, 2015 by hansolo77
Luke 42078 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 No, Emby for Windows Media Center is free and always will be. But we have apps in other stores that are paid and these are what help keep the project going. The Windows Store app is a different app. And they are still open source. The little bit of income they generate help us cover expenses and keep us competitive. 1
hansolo77 11 Posted April 3, 2015 Author Posted April 3, 2015 Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me. I was getting worried.
Wilky13 21 Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Were you really going to bail if MB was a one time fee of $4.99?! For an awesome program that plays all your media on multiple devices. That's less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks! Freeware is great when you aren't sure about something and want to test it. But if you end up liking the program and use it regularly shouldn't you at least donate $5 to the developer for his hard work providing you a useful tool? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 4

hansolo77 11 Posted April 3, 2015 Author Posted April 3, 2015 The concern I had was that in order to get the latest version, you had to pay for it. Therefore all future releases would also require payment. That was where I was upset. A single $4.99 payment wouldn't be too bad, but there was no way to know that this would be the case, hence my reason for making the thread to find out. I must have overlooked the part in the email that said it was a different app from that of the Windows Media Center one.
