AZMedia1 0 Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Thanks Cbers. I created a thread with my various other questions. The website seems to just offer downloads with no explanation of anything, how it works, features, etc.
pir8radio 1312 Posted April 3, 2015 Author Posted April 3, 2015 (edited) Well I ditched IIS ad my reverse proxy and went to Nginx. Seems to be working well, I have enabled caching of the images so I don't stress the Emby server. So far so good... Thanks to everyone for helping me test with the guest account! Seems to be working well, I have enabled caching of the images so I don't stress the Emby server. So far so good... Thanks to everyone for helping me test with the guest account! guest.notallmine.net user: guest pass: LetMeIn! (caps L, M, I, and !) Any particular reason for ditching IIS? The reason I ask, is that i'm using Server 2012R2 Essentials, and ... well, don't have a huge choice in the matter. Also, it sounds like your familiar with web servers. Any way to cache better with IIS?
pir8radio 1312 Posted April 5, 2015 Author Posted April 5, 2015 (edited) Any particular reason for ditching IIS? The reason I ask, is that i'm using Server 2012R2 Essentials, and ... well, don't have a huge choice in the matter. Also, it sounds like your familiar with web servers. Any way to cache better with IIS? Well the main reason I moved from IIS was that i'm using win7 and that version of IIS doesn't support websockets, the new MB server uses websockets so i wanted to pass everything i could through the proxy so all features worked. I think 2012 does support websockets through the proxy so you should be fine there. The caching my IIS did was "ok" (sounds like how you feel about it) I really didnt have all kinds of luck with caching in iis as a reverse proxy, it worked great if IIS hosted the actual site. i tried setting up a farm, i tried without, ARR just wouldn't save files to my SSD cache drive... all i could get iis to do was put the most recent in memory.. I'm no IIS expert, but i tried for weeks, following every online example i could find. So I said screw it, i want websockets and cache that works, ill try this nginx i keep running into... was pretty easy to setup, i still use IIS behind nginx for my regular websites even though nginx is a webserver too. super easy to setup cache rules, how long to keep cache, what files to cache... it seems pretty fast, i haven't had any issues yet. With my Emby server I am only caching Images, CSS, and Javascripts. Hope that was some kind of help.. Edited April 5, 2015 by pir8radio

pclausen 44 Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 (edited) What OS are you running Emby on? Are you finding that the loads get spread out evenly over the 10 cores? I got a 14 core E5-2683 on order so I'm curious how that many cores are working out for you. I'm running Emby as a plug-in under FreeNAS, btw. Nice collection! Can I ask how you have your music organized folder wise? Edited November 3, 2015 by pclausen
MEB 27 Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Nice, how can I get a copy of your music collection?

Can I ask how you have your music organized folder wise? @@pclausen I'm running Win 7 64bit. Loads do get spread out... when Emby scans my collection its pretty even across all 20 "threads".. Same when transcoding I found that if you transcode to an SSD the "chunks" will transcode fast, and emby will suck as much CPU as it can get its hands on.. See Below... But that said it transcodes its chunks quickly and handles multiple users at once.. have not ran into a limitation on that yet.. Need more users.. My music is organized as: DRIVE:\A\ARTISTFOLDER\ALBUMFOLDER\song.mp3 in my drive there are folders #-z A-all of the A artists, B, C etc. if that makes sense. Edited November 4, 2015 by pir8radio

pir8radio 1312 Posted November 4, 2015 Author Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) Old school sneaker net eh? yea faster for whole collections. I have a drive in a shippable pelican case! Just have to PM me.. Of course i wouldn't send any copyrighted material... Edited November 4, 2015 by pir8radio
pclausen 44 Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 (edited) @@pir8radio, Thanks. I have my music organized similarly, except I don't have the 26 "letter" folders. I go straight to the artist names inside my "CD" and "SACD" folders. Got about 420,000 tracks at the moment and FreeNAS (and windows) seems to deal fine with it. I don't know if I'm brave enough to let Emby attempt to scan my main music folder through... Got my 14 core Xeon running and the load is spread evenly across all cores under FreeNAS as well. Here's me transcoding 6 1080p @ 25 mbps (full DB rips) to webclients concurrently. CPU is staying reasonably cool, but then I got a decent size cooler on it: Edited November 6, 2015 by pclausen
rice 3 Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 How did you disable casts in the web ui? I'm wondering if you can disable chapters from showing up too.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 How did you disable casts in the web ui? I'm wondering if you can disable chapters from showing up too. The only way cast doesn't appear in ui is if they don't exist in the metadata.
David Martin 24 Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 How did you add a url to yours? Only asking as my friends are having to use a ddns link to get to mine.
pir8radio 1312 Posted February 20, 2017 Author Posted February 20, 2017 I'm curious how much the good ol' EMBY server can take..... Feel free to login to my server... If you know of any security holes please don't use them to thrash my files.... Just login play some media and lets see if it crashes... Moved to a data center, would like some users to give the server a go again please. Let me know how it compares to your own server (load speed, stream quality etc.)
David Martin 24 Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Stream quality is great, loading times are good. Interesting test will be good to see the outcome of it. I had thought of doing this with my own as I'm limited to 12mb/s with the server hosted from home. 1
legallink 187 Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 It's pretty solid on search and refresh of screens. It takes a little time to load up music but I assume that's cause your library is so large. Stream is capped at 20 Mbps which is decent. On local I'm streaming at 60, but again that's local. For data center access, it's amazing. Play wise, I get about a 5-7 second delay for music and a 8-12 second delay on video. On local I get just a few seconds faster on each respectively. Music on local is near instantaneous on most tracks, with a one to two second delay at best. Video appears to be a few second delay for me. Usually around 3-4 seconds. This is all via wifi on my iPad. I only did a random testing of 8-10 tracks or so for music and 3-4 files for video. 1

Huh strange, I am able to stream 120Mbps 4k to my home wired Emby theater over the net.. No hard caps set.. Server has 900+Mbps up and down to the internet. Thanks for testing and info! EDIT: now that I think about it, most of my newer movies are encoded in the 20-40Mbps range.. so maybe that is correct. Edited February 20, 2017 by pir8radio 1
Guest asrequested Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 I'll be able to give it a shot in about 5 hours. 1
Chillout 110 Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 Very nice,.. quality defaults to Auto-60mbs. Fast, responsive. Server is keeping up just fine.. 1
