lang-server 2 Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 (edited) I understand the need to "standardize". I like the new "home" screen using the subdued screen. Question, how would one select "movie genres" I noticed an option in the "view options" configure page about "show movie sub-folder", but that doesn't seem to do anything ?? Thanks Edited March 15, 2015 by lang-server
ebr 16169 Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Just about all folders can be indexed by genre (and actor, director, etc.) by using the theme's view configuration menu. Also, selecting to show those sub-levels will create a genre view under "Movies" and "TV" as long as you are using the new view style. If you are using legacy views then it is the same as it has always been.
lang-server 2 Posted March 16, 2015 Author Posted March 16, 2015 I guess I don't get it. I am using the "new" style (see attached above).. I selected the sub-level for movies.. Where exactly am I suppose to see the genre sub-menu's etc. It's not on the "home" screen.

lang-server 2 Posted March 16, 2015 Author Posted March 16, 2015 When I "select" movies (per previous attached screen).. The next screen is my regular coverflow screen of movies (see new attachment). I added the configuration screen, I am using the "subdued" theme
ebr 16169 Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Very odd. Have you re-started MBC since changing that option?
lang-server 2 Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 I have restarted MBC, still no change there a screen image of what I am suppose to see?..
ebr 16169 Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 You should get a set of folders for Resume, Movies, Favorites, Genres, etc. Are you sure you are actually entering the "Movies" view and not a media folder called "Movies"? I think that is probably what is happening. Go into View Configuration and make sure that you haven't un-checked all your movie folders in the "My Views" section.
lang-server 2 Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 Bingo.. I did have the movies "unchecked" in the "my views" section. I guess I don't understand what's the difference between a "View" vs media folder or how I would use it differently. If that makes any sense. If I use this new interface, can I modify the sub-menu (ie) I don't want or need to show Favorites or resume for example. Where can I place a backdrop and LOGO for the movie sub-menu ? Thanks
ebr 16169 Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 A media folder is a location you setup that points to one or more physical locations. A view is a, well, view, of your entire library (excluding media folders you selected to exclude) of a particular type of item regardless of where they may physically reside. See the IBN description for custom images for those items.
AdrianW 1058 Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 If I use this new interface, can I modify the sub-menu (ie) I don't want or need to show Favorites or resume for example. If you don't want Favourites or Resume - then you may as well just turn on Legacy Folder Browsing. The new views aren't really going to give you anything useful within MBC. If you turn on Legacy Browsing you can also turn on the old Movies By Genre option which will then appear on the EHS. Views will combine like content - so if you had multiple movie folders (e.g. Classics, New Releases, Foreign, etc) - then they'd all be combined into a "Movies" view, and multiple TV folders (TV, Cartoons, Anime, etc) would all end up in a "TV" view. I think many long-time Media Browser users prefer the Legacy Browsing option (I know I do). 1
lang-server 2 Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 Although I can go back to the legacy view, the new "view" option has some benefits I would like to explore using. My problems are backdrops and primary images. On the home screen, I can update the primary just fine using the metadata manager, however when I upload a backdrop, it doesn't show up. This is the same for "music".. The second question is HOW or where does one update the movie sub-menu "collections and favorites:.. I would like to add a proper image and backdrop and can't seem to fine a location to store them in. Thanks
lang-server 2 Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 Al little more definition, please. I'm trying to understand the naming conventions. In "legacy" view. I am using the coverflow option (see attached). I have a backdrop for "movies by Genre". I used the folder IBN/General/Movies by Genre/... I placed a primary image into that folder, tried calling is poster, thumb, primary.. None of these fill in the image as shown in the attach picture. How does one add this icon ? Thanks
ebr 16169 Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 That is the proper way. poster.jpg/png should work but try folder.
lang-server 2 Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 Yep, it's "folder".. I also tried "View" option vs Legacy.. It's the same for "collections" and "Favorites".. Backdrop and folder... It would be helpful if someone could update the wiki naming conventions and add the proper usage of "folder" icon for these special folders. This would saved you and me a lot of time.
