utah-dave 5 Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I am running a 2012 r2 server to host all my files and then some. I really really LOVE Media Browser new server. HOLY COW how cool. Now I just wish I can figure out how to integrate the my users from my AD into Media Browser for a single sign-on. how cool would that be. I already have a lot setup on my server so it would be cool to be able to do this with out having to re add users over again. Had anyone done this yet? if so HOW did you do it? Thanks for the help Dave 1
JeremyFr79 228 Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I to run an full 2012r2 domain at home, and agree this would be an amazing feature but I think I can say with a high level of certainty this will never happen. 1
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Well if there is demand they might do it but honestly how many people are running domains at home? I'm guessing the number is low.
utah-dave 5 Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 I am thinking the same thing. I have other programs that will let me use the AD, but not thins, I think it would be icing on the cake for us true techy's. I do agree with Deathsquirrel. For home users this number is way low. So It might never happen. But it would be cool and it sounds like no one here has even tried this yet. Darn it. Here is wishing.

I would disagree, my career is I.T. and many of my co-workers and friends run full domains at home. When you know how to leverage the power of having a domain for home use it's truly fantastic! 2
JeremyFr79 228 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I also don't think it would be too hard to do a faux SSO using powershell scripts assigned to users etc.
drashna 47 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I'll second this. As for "domain controller at home", check on Windows Server Essentials. (2012 or 2012R2). It's a continuation of Windows Home Server, so it includes a website (include SSL certificate and Dynamic DNS service), client "connector" software, and backups (via said client software). It's also a domain controller. It's not exactly cheap, but it's a fantastic solution for home use. So allowing users to be authenticated against the domain would be fantastic (as it's built in media stuff is crap).
utah-dave 5 Posted March 16, 2015 Author Posted March 16, 2015 Don't get me wrong, I love AD, Live in AD. And yes I love Windows serve essentials. Its great and easy to setup for any person. I just don't see if often in the home. But running s scrip is not a bad ideal. Have you gave it a try?
Jvtm 13 Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 I'm just about to take the plunge and set up a domain at home, but was just going to run MBS the same (as a service) like I currently do under Win7. Does that type of setup run smoothly? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cerothen 97 Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 I think it would be good if there was a way to generate plugins with back end authentication. I don't know if the functions exist currently to make it work however it word then be possible for community members to make authentication plugins for LDAP, ftp etc.

Does that type of setup run smoothly? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yes, I do this now. You just change the service start account to a domain account, if you have content that is not on a public share. My bd rips are on an unprotected unraid share. My music and photos are on an ntfs protected share. Oh one catch is that if the htpc running emby is on an account that doesn't have access to the share, I gets transcoded. This doesn't matter much, unless you have certain types of content :-) 1
DexDeadly 7 Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 (edited) Old topic but agree, I would love to have this. Subsonic allows this, NAS boxes and others do. I wouldn't think it would be that hard to add. How do we go about submitting a request for this. I have lots of things authenticating against my AD. Edited December 29, 2015 by DexDeadly 1
Ian-Highlander 147 Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Another "would love this" from me too. I also run a full A/D domain at home and already run the service as an a/d user, but it would be great to be able to have users log on with their a/d accounts. Wonder if some sort of SSO integration using LDAP could be achieved without too much effort by the devs?
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 As someone that supports several web apps that do windows authentication I think this is a hideous PITA that should be avoided but that's up to the devs. Since this is a pure FR can @@ebr move it to the FR forum for voting? 1

ustoopia 0 Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 having the abbility to join your domain would be a very , very huge PLUS for me. I'm very satisfied about what this package has to deliver so far and this would just be perfect.

Untoten 306 Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Guys please add your endorsements to this FR, I have centralized this request so we can show the communities desire for this feature.https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/26495-ldap-support
