oldschool 16 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Any plans to include SlingTV connectivity in MB3 and/or MBT? This would really help to take the next step in cord cutting for many of us, and their lineup looks promising. https://www.sling.com/
Beardyname 198 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 This will only happen if Sling has some sort of API that allows 3rd party apps with an active subscription can hook into their interface, as far as i can tell i could not find such a thing so for now it does not seem possible.
Luke 42077 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 they have their app on just about every platform, or are working on it at least. i don't see much incentive for them to create an open api so I wouldn't be too hopeful.
oldschool 16 Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 Might it be possible just to add an icon so you can switch between programs, similar to the way the Kodi/XBMC launcher is embedded just as an icon on the Windows Media Center front page? Then, when you switch apps from MBT to the SlingTV, it closes the app and opens SlingTV and brings the focus to it, and then after you're done, you return to MBT? That might be a workaround outside of actual APIs or embedded functionality.
ebr 16169 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 There is already an app launcher plug-in for MBT so yes.
snazy2000 344 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Looks like kodi supports slingtv not sure how but maybe it could be implemented somhow
ebr 16169 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Just be sure it is legal. Other projects don't concern themselves as much with that but we want to stay 100% legit on what we provide access to. 1
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Slingbox and Slingtv are two separate and unrelated technologies. Slingbox is a piece of hardware that lets you record television and movies to watch later. Slingtv is a new internet streaming service from Dish Network. It costs $20 a month and has about a dozen popular cable channels including ESPN. Additional channels can be purchased in content packs that cost $5 or more per month. 1
thefirstofthe300 292 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Koleckai is right. The Slingbox is a lot like the Dish Hopper in that it allows you to record TV and then sling it to a compatible device. http://www.slingbox.com/
oldschool 16 Posted February 19, 2015 Author Posted February 19, 2015 Roku just announced Sling TV integration. Seems like there may be a possibility for native integration with MBtheater.
archangelz 13 Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 http://kodi.wiki/view/Slingbox Slingbox would be super useful as well in MB3 especially as a live TV source. There's an open source project that shows up to interface with the slingbox. http://sourceforge.net/projects/slingfront/
Luke 42077 Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 No, they do not make their streams available for other apps to utilize.
uaPatriot 0 Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 (edited) anyway to cap Sling from through Roku? Edited April 23, 2019 by uaPatriot
Luke 42077 Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 Ok, to my knowledge there is no way to do this. They don't allow any third party apps to touch their streams.
