Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Subtitles have stopped working in the Roku 1.79 client. User Profile: Audio Language - English Subtitle Preference - English Subtitle Mode: Default Select video. Before playback go to the options -> subtitles, select the appropriate SRT file. Close. Select Play Video. No subtitles. Press * and it only allows subtitles during "Instant Playback", whatever that is in a television episode. The episode in question this time was Supernatural, Season 10 Episode 1. Solution speechles 2055 Posted January 28, 2015 Solution Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) Settings >> Captions With roku 6.1.x firmware this section has changed. You need to make sure subtitles are on. Soft subtitles . direct playable. On/off ability. 1) play any video 2) press * to turn subtitles on and pick the proper subtitle. Hard subtitles . transcoded into the video , always on 1) before playing the video choose the subtitle to embed 2) play video Soft-subtitles are preferred of course. Luke 42078 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 ah interesting. that is true because we are using captions. we aren't actually burning them in with transcoding. whatever the Instant button thing you're mentioning. that's not from us.
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) Thanks Speechles, that worked. They still worked in Netflix which is why I didn't look there. Edited January 28, 2015 by Koleckai Silvestri
Luke 42078 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 yea i wonder if there is a command to force them regardless of the setting. or what is more likely, perhaps netflix is using a custom video player screen whereas we are using the built-in one.
ABNParatrooper 6 Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 I have a Roku 3 software version 7.1.0 Build 4062 and the subtitles work on TV shows but not on some movies. They work fine in the other apps like Netflix. I have captions set to on, I press the * before the movies start so I can select a subtitle file. The only options I get under that menu are None, Eng [selected], and Close. I tried to narrow it down to maybe file types, but they work on some same file types and not some of the same file types.
