Collaborate with Kodi/XBMC on DLNA

The idea came up by one of the Kodi developers to further improve DLNA to allow serving metadata such as fanart across media player solutions such as MBS and Kodi. Please see below thread. Would be great to know if there are any interest on the MBS side?

This is great.  I really think if we can get the Kodi devs interested in an enhanced DLNA implementation AND get the MB server to provide the expanded fields we will have something exciting going.  We could still use an addon service to help with things like Widgets and playback progress, but ditch the Python processing of directories.

Sounds like the Kodi devs ALREADY have their full schema mapped in upnp.  I have asked for the details.

 

We will need a mechanism to map MB schema to Kodi schema though.  Preferably use a config file so we don't need to actually compile the server.

Wow, this is fantastic. Also, appears you are in touch with Montelesse who is the core Kodi developer driving the integration of UPNP/DLNA into Kodi's local library (http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=212196 / https://github.com/Montellese/xbmc/tree/media_import_redesign). Once this is completed, the full "integration" of the MBS and Kodi clients could be accomplished :-)
