This is a big one although it should appear fairly transparent to existing installs.

This version brings MB Connect to MBC - with the caveat that some parts of MBC may not function well or at all over a low-bandwidth connection - so use at your own risk ;).

For existing users, you probably won't notice anything different here.  If you had it setup to find your server automatically, it should still do that.  If you were attaching to a specific server, it should still do that too.  The only thing you should see is a new option on the user menu:

54a979b1aa6dd_usermenuconn.png

Selecting that will take you to a new page that will allow you to use the same PIN style connection with your Connect Id that clients like MBT and the Roku do.

54a97a555c899_mbcconnect.png

Once you confirm the pin and hit "Next", you will then see a server selection screen that allows you to select your Connect-enabled servers from MBC.

54a97d7545027_mbcserverselect2.png

You can also enter a server address manually from this screen much like you can with the user screen.

For new installs, the system will still favor discovering your local server automatically but, if one isn't found, the Connect procedure will be started.

Please, anyone who can, spend some time trying out this new version in both your current completely local capacity to be sure everything still works and in using the new connect feature.

Do realize that some things may not work well at all on a low-bandwidth connection.  Feel free to report these situations and I'll see if there is anything that can be done to streamline them but some things just may not be feasible (like browsing a music collection of 10s of thousands of songs).

Testing local access when connect is not configured and when it is is also important because, while you can't see much difference, a lot of things under the hood of MBC had to change to make this all work.

Thanks in advance for your efforts.

will def give it a workout in both "modes"

Well, since so many folks jumped on board with that one...   I've got another change for you.

245 is up as dev and it now uses the same views that you see in the web client as the main items on the EHS/top level.  This allows you to have consistency with the presentation and to much more easily control the order in which these things appear.

If you old-school die hards just can't stand it, you can force MBC to use the old "Legacy" style pure folder presentation with an option in the View config page.

It's good to finally see "Next Up" and "Resume" in MBC - but is there any chance of including the show title somewhere, it's difficult to determine what's what when all you have are episode titles:

We're still a little hamstrung by the generic nature of some of the views in MBC.  I had noticed that as well and hoped that backdrops would be enough of a clue because 1) of the generic nature of the view and 2) as you see in your example, it won't really fit in a lot of cases.

i'm back for a bit, i'll check out the new dev build with Subdued and Xenon

Happy new year :)

Everything seems to be working good with Xenon in both legacy and with the new folders and the EHS RAL's for next up and upcoming are still working with the new folder structure when selected in the non-legacy layout which is nice :D

One thing is the when selecting legacy on in the MBC config it requires a restart of MBC and doesn't update dynamically, is this intentional?

I'll check Subdued now, but can't see there being an issue

EDIT: Subdued seems to be good as well.

Not so much intentional as necessary.  This is noted on the config page when you select the option.

Thanks for giving us the option. I would have been very upset otherwise.

So I've been putting it through it's paces, even though I really don't like or want to use the overall style personally, I should at least do what I can to help make sure it works.

It may not be for me, but it's working well.

Well, thank you very much for testing it out.

The reason it has taken this long to implement in MBC is because I know most of you old crusties (;)) will hate changing the way it presents itself.  However, for new users, the MBC way of displaying information is very confusing because it is different from everything else.

I would love to see the ability to enter right into Series instead of the TV options page just like it used too.

I have thought about how to make that work and still maintain the additional "slices" provided by the views.  Unfortunately, the default browsing mode of MBC does not lend itself to the same type of presentation that the web client creates.  I'm still thinking about ways to potentially make that happen.

Maybe making them an on/off button for that in the config menu of MBC.  Wife likes simple and now she really doesn't like it as its not as seamless and one extra step.

Just updated from an old version of MBC to this version, and I get an error starting it, with WMC saying that it was unable to start MB3:

The second error is just because you cannot access the api from a browser like that.

The first one is a time out trying to retrieve some channel content.  Is it consistent?  If so, can I please see the whole log?

Underneath the new TV view.

OK, not seeing it, but might be because I don't use views.

Correct.  It is a part of the views.

Correct.  It is a part of the views.

Just updated my preferences to have a TV view, re-scanned the library, and I now see it if I enter TV - thought it might have been an option on the RAL.

The Next Up has thumbs and I don't know what TV show I am looking at.

MBC still fails to start the first time and I have to re-enter MBC from WMC. Was the log above any use ??

eric,

one of my machines doesnt like 245... if i completely uninstall mbc and install from exe (243) i log in fine on this machine... when it prompts to update to 245 it completes and then i get an "invalid app error in wmc"

here are the evtmgr details for the exception:

Exception System.InvalidOperationException: Unable to locate a property "HasViews" on type 'Item' for reading. (Path provided was 'MBPlusApp.Instance.CategoryModel.SelectedChild!usent:MBPlusCategoryFolderModel.HasViews').

Web - it seems like it should be the opposite (243 would crash) but what version of MB Plus Classic do you have installed?  Try deleting the dll and then re-installing that.
