all4dom 101 Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Can this utilize all plug ins available in the server. Reason I ask is because with mediaportal, its baked into the software & can not utilize everything available.
gthrift 64 Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Doest this require transcoding or will it stream directly?
sfnetwork 514 Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 (edited) Didn't he say no videos yet? 7 just gave me the OK. Edited October 29, 2013 by sfnetwork
Lee 212 Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 now this i like ! i think i might try get waf for this and ceton my mediacenter on loopback and never open WMC... don't hold up much hope tho, the wife fears change!!!
sfnetwork 514 Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 (edited) IMO, after adding full remote/keyboard support in the app, this could easily be a main Windows 8.1 HTPC app in the living room... This is actually the first time (besides NetFlix) that I'm using actively (and enjoying) Windows 8 metro apps..lol A lot of potential... Edited October 29, 2013 by sfnetwork
techywarrior 689 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Looks very cool. But why does it require 8.1 and won't work on 8.0? Did they add some new APIs?
sfnetwork 514 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 (edited) 7Illusions is doing an amazing job on the Windows 8 App Media Browser client dev and I feel like I should share some screenshots of his work (so far...) It is still a work in progress but it's moving so fast... This will be one of the best clients IMO. ***Update: added a quick video to show off how fast and fun this client is (and this is really at early stage...): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw29LTGagDY&feature=youtu.be Also, mobile view: and light theme: Edited October 29, 2013 by sfnetwork 8
all4dom 101 Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 Makes me want to upgrade to windows 8. Now I'm thinking about this.
Luke 42077 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 I believe this requires 8.1 - SF/7 can you clarify?
ebr 16169 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 I believe this requires 8.1 - SF/7 can you clarify? Yes it does. 1
sfnetwork 514 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 I believe this requires 8.1 - SF/7 can you clarify? yes, 8.1 required from what 7 said...
Luke 42077 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Ok, I would find out and adjust the thread title if needed.
sfnetwork 514 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 (edited) I added a video to show off how fast and fun it is (first post) Edited October 29, 2013 by sfnetwork

Luke 42077 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 http://www.reddit.com/r/windows8/comments/1piegd/preview_of_media_browser_for_windows_81/ Please give a thumbs up and/or comment this one because it's in the windows8 subreddit. Lots of potential users there.
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 The screens look great but, having played with a lot of media apps, the performance of the app shown in the movie is what's actually stunning.
sfnetwork 514 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 The screens look great but, having played with a lot of media apps, the performance of the app shown in the movie is what's actually stunning. Also keep in mind that my server wasn't on the same machine (on my server over LAN). So yeah, pretty good start
TrackZ 16 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Will this client support the use of external players? So we could start playback over into TMT/PDVD metro or desktop versions and come back cleanly? Also, is the all lower case text on titles and such a fixed element or is that tunable? Looks great!
psykix 97 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 The video looks good - does it work well with a remote though? Keyboard isn't really an option in this house!
ebr 16169 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Keep a couple things in mind folks: 1) This is in early development (even though a lot of progress has been made) so the developer may not wish to address a ton of questions on it yet. 2) It may branch out further and I know sf has been testing it as such, but, this is originally designed as a touch interface.
CFC 25 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Looks really good! You've got a volunteer if you need any beta testing . Make use of my RT tablet. CFC
