dirkdigs 10 Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Scan media library failed. a minute ago Start index cannot be less than 0 or greater than input length. Parameter name: start What does this mean?
techywarrior 689 Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Not sure the cause but I believe someone else had the problem and Luke said there is a fix for this in the latest dev build. If you don't want to run a dev build you can just wait for beta or final release but not sure if that error goes away or you are stuck till then.
Happy2Play 9782 Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 For this user it was related to rar files in a directory. http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/15591-scan-media-library-failed-start-index-cannot-be-less-than-0-or-greater-than-input-length-parameter-name-start/

Travis 0 Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Bug still exists in Release: v3.0.5464.40000. This was an AVI file. Snippet attached of culprit.
techywarrior 689 Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Try renaming those two files to "Four Sisters and a Wedding - A.avi" or better yet "Four Sisters and a Wedding - disc1.avi" and disc 2 and see if that works. 1
Travis 0 Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Try renaming those two files to "Four Sisters and a Wedding - A.avi" or better yet "Four Sisters and a Wedding - disc1.avi" and disc 2 and see if that works. First method did not work, but second option was successful. Thanks. To make it easier to locate these files, can you insert bad filename into log?
Travis 0 Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 The following filename ('The Colony.mkv') will also crash server (attachment included).

To make it easier to locate these files, can you insert bad filename into log? @@Luke that means one of the "supported" file naming methods in the Wiki either doesn't work or is poorly described: You can also use: moviename#.extWhere # can be A through D.
Luke 42080 Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Here is an automated test proving "The Colony.mkv" is handled just fine: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/MediaBrowser.Naming/blob/95b9042629d2ff4199bf90002d3946d928dcfcfe/MediaBrowser.Naming.Tests/Video/VideoListResolverTests.cs#L347 Here is an automated tested proving Four Sisters and a Wedding - A.avi (and are correctly resolved into two-part movie: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/MediaBrowser.Naming/blob/95b9042629d2ff4199bf90002d3946d928dcfcfe/MediaBrowser.Naming.Tests/Video/VideoListResolverTests.cs#L367 Have a jolly day
techywarrior 689 Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 That's good Luke. I wonder it didn't work for Travis. At least it's resolved for him by using disc1, disc2. I still think the Wiki description is a little confusing because it doesn't have the dash and space like the other examples. (unless it truly would work with moviename# which I would imagine would be impossible since you couldn't differentiate it from an actual name).
Luke 42080 Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Well this whole thread is a guessing game until the question in post #4 is answered. If he has renamed his files to workaround whatever problem he had then i guess it's a moot point.
dirkdigs 10 Posted December 28, 2014 Author Posted December 28, 2014 i deleted rar file and it now is completing without issue. why does having a rar file in my folder cause scan library to fail?
Pete90291 0 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 [Scan media library failed. xx minutes ago Start index cannot be less than 0 or greater than input length. Parameter name: start] i've been having the same of many new issues.. ive checked an have not rar in folders. i've checked the log file but don't know what to look for or which directory is causing the failure. i've attached log file. any help would be appreciated. thanks server-63555702113.txt
Luke 42080 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 This should be resolved for the next release. you can grab the dev server if you want to test it now. see the alpha area at the bottom of the forum.
