KarterJK 35 Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 I was very upset when I deleted an entry from my library, only to find that it had deleted the entire folder from my computer. I believe this is a terrible, terrible flaw of the system, instead I think that a file can either be toggled as displayed or not displayed within the library AT THE VERY LEAST it should double check with you to see if you really want to delete the entire folder/files from your computer or is there somewhere I can set how this is handled?
Solution Angelblue05 4132 Posted December 14, 2014 Solution Posted December 14, 2014 Media Browser 3 really acts as a media manager. I guess the warning should be readjusted to mention that it will also delete the item from your computer. It used to mention it, back when you needed to answer an equation before being able to delete the item. If you want to hide items from your library, the current available option is to use parental ratings with tags. You can check this guide out to help you accomplish this: http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/14870-guide-hidingexcluding-media-collections-via-tags/?hl=%2Bhide+%2Bitems+%2Blibrary 2
FrostByte 5392 Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 If you have your movies, etc in their own folders then I believe you can still add a ".ignore" file in the folder also and MB will not display anything in that folder. 1
KarterJK 35 Posted December 14, 2014 Author Posted December 14, 2014 (edited) If you have your movies, etc in their own folders then I believe you can still add a ".ignore" file in the folder also and MB will not display anything in that folder. Ahhhh, thank you, thank you, thank you... that worked great, and doesn't effect my Windows Media Center (using MyMovies.dk) I have all of my movies stored in .vob format, though Media Browser (app.mediabrowser.tv) can play most of them, some simply will not play properly. So, to handle this, I create an .mkv verson and put it into an exceptions directory. This way I only have to duplicate the movies that can't be properly handled, and I was not looking forward to converting my entire library. While both methods work, I am not certain which I like best, toggling parental items can get a bit tedious Though this works I still think a toggle would be nice within the server editor itself, maybe just add a category like HIDDEN to replace PG, X, M, etc.. (perhaps in some future version????) Edited December 14, 2014 by KarterJK
ebr 16184 Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Yes, it used to be a whole lot harder to delete things and we probably have made it a bit too easy now. At the very least, there should be a big red warning message on that dialog that says it will delete from the computer as well. 4
tornadotj 6 Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 (edited) Edit: I misunderstood, I thought you could delete from the MB client now. My misunderstanding. Edited December 14, 2014 by tornadotj
