jamesdav 0 Posted 56 minutes ago Posted 56 minutes ago Hey all, My Emby server is running on an old quad core and it’s starting to struggle. Direct play is fine, but once someone needs transcoding while another person is watching, things get choppy. I’m planning to purchase octa core Intel processor this month. Mostly 1080p stuff, a few 4K files, and usually 3 or 4 people streaming at once. Is 8 cores overkill for that? Or does Quick Sync matter more than the core count? Also not sure if I should go with a newer chip or save money with an older one. Would love to hear what you’re running. Thanks!
Eigeplackter 117 Posted 8 minutes ago Posted 8 minutes ago Probably should invest the money in a decent gpu if it's struggling with transcoding. Otherwise, even with a stronger cpu, all transcoding is running via cpu and that's heavy load. What sockets are available on your mainboard ? A decent gpu (i.e. RTX30x, Arc Axxx) can handle at least 2 parallel transcodes, probably more.
