Emby Server 4.10.2.0 on macOS – Scheduled metadata updates not correcting series identification, Missing Episo

THIS IS JUST ONE EXAMPLE I HAVE ALREADY FIXED 50 and I DONT WANT TO HAVE TO GO THROUGH ALL 1000+ SHOWS TO MANUALLY IDENTIFY

I'm having an issue with Emby's metadata management, particularly how it affects the Missing Episodes and Upcoming features.

I have a library containing over 1,000 TV series, and I rely heavily on these two features to keep track of missing and upcoming episodes.

I've discovered that some series are not being identified or updated correctly, despite scheduled library and metadata maintenance.

Example: Hell's Kitchen (US)

The series folder is named:

Hells Kitchen (2025) [tvdb=74897]

The correct series is Hell's Kitchen (US), which originally aired in 2005.

What happens:

  • Emby displays the series with an incorrect title/year.

  • Missing Episodes does not report the expected episodes correctly.

  • Upcoming does not display the next scheduled episodes correctly.

  • Scheduled library scans complete, but the problem remains.

What fixes it:

  • I right-click the series and select Identify.

  • I search for Hells Kitchen.

  • I select the correct result, Hell's Kitchen (US) (2005).

  • Emby updates the series identification.

  • Missing Episodes then reports correctly, and the series appears in Upcoming as expected.

I've attached screenshots showing the identification process, the corrected missing episodes and the updated Upcoming display.

The problem

While manually identifying a series resolves the issue, this is not practical for a library containing over 1,000 TV series.

My expectation is that scheduled metadata updates should maintain the correct series information and episode listings, or at least provide a way to identify and correct these issues across the library without manually processing every series.

The scheduled tasks appear to complete successfully, but that doesn't seem to guarantee that the metadata is accurate or up to date.

Server details

  • Emby Server: 4.10.2.0

  • Operating system: macOS (Apple Silicon / ARM64)

  • TVDB plugin: 1.6.7.0

  • Library: Over 1,000 TV series across multiple external drives

Log findings

I've attached my server log dated 1 November 2026.

The log contains repeated errors involving TheTVDB, including BadRequest responses and failures from TvdbSeasonImageProvider and TvdbSeriesImageProvider.

I'm unsure whether these errors are related to the identification and metadata issues, but they may be worth investigating.

What I'd like to know

  • Why aren't scheduled metadata updates correcting these issues?

  • Is there a problem with the TVDB metadata provider, or could this be related to how Emby handles existing series identification?

  • Is there a way to audit and repair the identification and episode metadata for the entire library in bulk?

  • Can this be done without losing existing artwork, custom metadata, watched status or other library information?

I'd appreciate some guidance on resolving this at library level rather than having to manually identify hundreds of individual series.

Screenshots and server log attached.

Hi, the library scan isn’t looking for this sort of thing. It’s only looking for new and updated files.

Do you have pre existing nfo files?

The issue with this series is the tvdb id has a leading space. So now the question is how did it get there. If we can figure that out, then you can prevent it from happening again.
